I finally installed a fire suppression system from Blaze Cut. It was a bit tricky to get the hangers in place, but I think it turned out pretty clean.
I hope it works if I ever need it. |

Nice install. But did it require drilling holes in the sheetmetal?
I'd like to see some design that mounts to the decklid that utilizes the slots in the decklid reinforcement panel. But then again, I'd worry about setting the thing off by slamming the decklid too hard. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Yes Semper it did require drilling into the sheet metal for the clamps, however I feel this is the best location. I basically followed how Gene Kisler set his up. Gene has a top notch Thing and some very good knowledge on the subject ( good guy too). A alternative mounting idea could use magnets if you did not want to drill. The problem is the BlazeCut tube is not very flexible and takes something strong to hold it in place once you bend. |

FYI , I used eight rare earth magnets ( 100 # ) to hold my system in place 2000 miles and 18 months later it hasn’t moved. Plus no drilling. |

I think the rating is excessive for what it actually is but don’t get your skin between the magnet and the metal |

Hey colin_peggy (and others), I just put in my blaze cut using 100# rare earth magnets and clamps.. seems pretty solid and required no drilling through the car. It's pretty close to the fan shroud (but not touching)..
Anyone see any reason why I SHOULD NOT run like this?
Thanks

Looks almost exactly like my installation and it’s been in place for several years and 5,000 miles . Haven’t moved with those magnets . As you said “ no drilling” . |

I did the decklid mount with magnets back in 2021, at the time I had hand surgery and was no way I could do this easily uncoiled, these blazecuts are rather stiff items, but this is "right outta the box" mounted. So far so good.
There was some questions about it where it was mounted but I believe a fire in the engine compartment with this on the lid or the 'roof' should still melt and do it's job.
Used magnets with 'gorilla tape' on the back to avoid paint scratches, and used 2 of the existing bolt/nuts for the license plate light I believe as extra mounts. It's sturdy, even slamming the lid with my phone recording video inside engine compartment showed it missing everything so - so far so good.
And I angled the gauge for easy read with lid open and it's fairly easy to remove if needed.
Hope this helps,
T
