I named the car after an unfaithful girlfriend. I want to retire my church key and install a barrel lock. Someone got in there and removed (stole) the factory identification plate. The stamped ID number on the firewall matched the plate and is still on my vehicle registration. I used my work truck as a "per diem" location in trailer parks. When I retired I put the truck in garage because of break ins and theft. Now I want to use it for a post retirement gig for the next 4 years. (I do Not want a bigger truck!) Has anyone made an aftermarket lock? Maybe this should be a separate thread. |

Congrats on your retirement, and first post!!!
Did a quick search of the split bus forum with the "Titles Only" box checked and used the search words "Gas Lock" and got these results:

Ooops, I think you are correct now that I re-read his first post.
He originally posted this in the dedicated church key thread after people were talking about the gas door so I didn't read it close enough.
I moved to it's own dedicated thread since it was not a specific church key question.
I edited the title now to be decklid instead of gas door
If a locking decklid is needed, you can use a locking handle, the same one used in upper rear hatch but you have to modify the church key hole a little to install the locking collar.
Here's one thread where it was talked about

No worries, as long as we do not have to buy a vowel!! _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

There used to be an accessory lock for the engine lid. I don't know who made it but it was like the lock on a safe. It had a shaft that went into the square hole with a washer and nut. Outside the lock was about 2 inches diameter by 1/2 inch thick. It had a combination lock that you solved then the whole thing turned on the outside with your hand to open the lid.
There was a similar version that used a key.
Anyone got a photo? I've searched. |

What year truck?
As Everett said, 67 has a lock. Probably easiest mod. I've also seen the bay deck lid locks fitted on; not sure how much surgery that takes.
blackdog1999 put on what looks like an early bay lock, but he states it's a 67 accessory
