Just get some big, dumb friends to pick it up and place it on the trailer.

i dont remember every detail but i have swapped the ignition switch in a 70 numerous times BUT i had the key ....still you undo so many things i wonder if a locked steering column can still come out , surly this isnt a first .....ya gota take off the steering wheel , maybe the turn signal switch ..... somewhere there is a tiny set screw to get the ignition switch out . the ignition im talking about is not the key portion , its the switch below that . i think the ignition housing can be separated from the steering column and maybe the lock comes out with it ....
there may be some helpful info in this article , i didnt read the whole thing .. but i did read the part about how you remove the ignition switch without a key on some years , i think its your year ????

if that works then slip the steering wheel back on to steer it onto the trailer . while you figure out all the other stuff that needs fixin |

Bobs67vwagen is like the story my buddy told me yesterday. They had gone somewhere to pan for gold and some kids had parked their car in the middle of the road blocking anyone from getting through. So, he, his panning buddy and a couple of other panners that were around, picked up the car and moved it off the road and in between a couple of good-sized trees. They left, so they never saw how the kids got their car out, but there was no way to back it or pull forward. |
That is so funny it reminded me of a similar "funny" story.
In my early youth attending a youth church fellowship one of the guys used to always get practical jokes played on him. The worst (but funniest) was when a whole bunch of guys lifted up his Hillman Imp and placed it between the front verandah poles of the entry to the small church. As above there was no way it could be moved.

Not very Christian behaviour but then the minister always said that all men were sinners. He thought it hilarious.
Many years later it came to life in that Austin Powers movie when he tries to extricate the electric cart in the tunnel.
After much guffawing and pleading by the owner the Hillman was removed from the church entry much to the relief of everyone including the minister. It gave the bible saying "Come unto me the little children" a somewhat humourous different meaning. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery
