always nice to see you posting TRs and how you use the bus.
And I still envy your mpgs. I can't seem to get better than 17 mpg. However I need to admit that I always have the full length HWE rack on top.
Basically the same tires and the 68 short gear box. Which means I'm at 3800 rpms at 68 miles/h.
Running 40 dells (probably not fully dialed in yet) on the 2074 after having ditched the 37Pict.
Hard to believe yours takes 3l less per 100km.

Went racing, 12 hrs of Mesa Verde. I raced Co-Duo my friend Sarah. We both did three 17.68 mile laps. The field was stacked and 6 laps only got us 17th place. Last year we got 7th. c’est la vie, at least we had fun.

Upgraded the trailer. New leaf springs, flipped the axle, new wheel bearings and upgraded to 12” tires.

My camp got lots of kudos.

Awesome 4th of July weekend! We loaded up on Thursday and headed to Silverton, Co for the 4th annual 4th of July VW Bus Campout. Silverton is a small mountain town that sits at 9318’. Bailey, Miles and the 2 dawgs all came on this adventure. There were 35 buses, lots of people from Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Lots of old friends and made some new ones. Peryl was a pleasure to drive, no issues towing the trailer and temps were perfect!

We hung out, laughed, played frisbee, threw the football, shot BB guns, cycled and ate out every meal. This is our second adventure in a row that I didn’t do any cooking. I’m definitely liking that. It’s not the cooking, but the clean up I’m happy not doing.

Coolest part of the event was being in the parade. 6 of the buses at the event joined the parade and we rode on the roof of a ‘66 Sundial and threw candy out to the crowd. The parade was definitely wild and roudy! Silverton brought the vibes for the 4th.

Trip miles: 120
Engine temps: Perfect!
Oil consumption: None
Impact of the trailer: Game changing!

Fourth time!? How does one learn about these more local events? I have been back in SW CO since 2022 and never hear/see any vw related events advertised. Seems not a lot of ACVW owners in particular 'round here, but those who do are dedicated to the hobby.

I’ve always been enamored with the San Juans, beautiful part of Colorado. We drag our jeeps up to Silverton each year to try and catch the aspens. Last year was exceptional.
Nice to see KCW representing, haven’t seen a lot of the Jones since he took the website down.
Thanks for sharing.

There’s always something going on. July 31 - Aug 2nd is bus camp at rhythms On The Rio in Del Norte. Last time I went to that festival there was 100 buses in Bus camp. At the end of September, there’s the ABC jamboree in Flagstaff and then early October there’s buses and balloons in Albuquerque. All great events. For a number of years, I held an off-road event, but unfortunately that event fizzled out.

Where is SW CO are you? I see you in the beetle forum all the time. I have a ‘65 deluxe that I cruise around in when I’m not driving my bus.

Unfortunately Buses and Balloons lost the use of that camping area and has cancelled all gatherings until they find a new venue.
It's too bad since the location was perfect for watching the Balloon Fiesta.

It’s a shame that most of the events mentioned aren’t listed in the Samba events section. A byproduct of facebook I suppose.

A couple more are Buses at the Brewery in CO Springs and the Moab drive.

A real bummer about the Balloons event. I was shooting to have my Westy ready for that show.

The NMBC has regained access to the Alameda Baseball fields and the 2025 Buses and Balloons event is scheduled for 10/9 - 10/12.

Went racing!

Today I did the Boggy Draw Beat Down in Dolores, Co. Super fun time! Yesterday I got the bus ready and headed out at 8:30 for Dolores. Wanted to get there just after dark as I planned on urban camping downtown by the start/finish line. Got a nice spot, there was no issues camping and the bus drove great.

The race was 35.84 miles with 2855’ of vert. I got 6th out of 18 in my age class and 19th out of 67 overall.

Here’s a link to the race if anyone is interested.

It’s a Trail 429. NOS from Mikes Bikes. Just upgraded the wheelset, I9 Hydras with Reynolds carbon rims and a XO crankset. I had the suspension custom tuned by DSD with a Runt in the fork.
