Just saying, as there are not many if any 22 year old somethings wanting a stock restored, low vin notchback. Its all us 45 plus fogy's that were 22 when a stock, low vin notchback was something.
At any "all inclusive" shows, cars and coffee events, the hot rod, muscle car spectrum that the ACVW scene could piggy back off of are pushed aside for the 88 Lexus or the 85 Honda CRX. Cars we tossed aside as our daily's or first real new car purchase that our kids were exposed to in their your youth. Just as the 68 Bay driven by soccer coach was our youth. Just the normal course of things. When is the last time someone was hot for a 1921 Model T? When I was 19 there were plenty of fogy's in line to buy them. But by the time I was 27 - prices went down and stashes became available cuz the fan base was, well old fogy's that were dead or on their way out. My fellow VW heads hate it when I say this stuff, but enjoy it while you can, don't expect your investment to pay off as we are not talking about split or bay window Westfalias which I think will out last interest that all of us. Its a notch at least, but most that want one had or have other different VWs in the paddock.
I fully expect to see some killer VW stuff show up in the next 5 to 10 years as people get older, leave the rotting hoards from their yards to uninterested family members - its happening now - so present hoarders will buy some more... But Im telling you, this shit is finite and we will see some amazing hoards go for nothing, if anything as interests, health and time close in. BOO! Says THE BOOGY MAN
Id build this car as soon as possible and enjoy it. _________________

I agree, well said. The bottom is about to fall out on 50s/60s american iron next. It's sad but true, the boomers have held onto everything for all these years and driven the prices sky high. After they're gone there won't be anyone lining up to buy that packard caribbean, lincoln continental mk2 and so on. They'll be going cheap but I'll be here with my wallet open to enjoy some of it ....finally!! |

Everything is still alive and thriving very much. I plan to enjoy the next 10, hopefully 20 years of VW events, friends and internet BS. My plan on this one last car Im building is the center of that. Its almost done and I cant wait to start cruzing it.
Keep this space updated on the notch progress. Nothing sucks more than a very interesting project that people would love to follow fall flat on its face.

Yes, that was my thought too. There's been a few projects on here that had high expectations, but seemed to just die off. I don't know if it was life getting in the way, or a lack of cash, but the progress just stopped. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

That's how my 71 Notch started it's rebuild. I've got plenty of pics in my gallery and in the link in my signature below. That car was so rusty that I had to replace the front frame head, floors, and front beam. It was so bad that I called it Krunchy. While everyone says that finding parts for the early cars is hard, the late model ones can be hard to find parts for too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

About to send off for some pans and blasting. Quick question, the tray piece that goes under the back seat, what years can I use for my car? Anyone have one? |

Are you talkiing about the panel that closes in the area under the rear seat? You should check out my ads as I'm parting out a 64 notch. I still have that piece in it. _________________ 53 SG Barndoor SC

Not to discourage you. What I see on your backseat partition sheet is pretty much representative of ones I saw when I was looking for my 1964 notch. I found it would be easier to fabricate the bottom edge and weld/buff the replacement edge piece into place. I considered that piece one of the least visible and the partition is only a structural partition and not seen after putting the sound deadening and the original rubber piece over that.
I am confident your fab skills are much higher than mind for you to take on this project.
I started off with no pans similar to yours. I followed BobNotch's advice and also the Gerson pan threads. I am happy with my result. But it is not factory/show quality. It is structurally sound which was my goal. _________________ Ossipon

Yeah, what he said. I don't know how many type 3s I've done floors on over the years, but just about everyone of them got metal added to the bottom of the rear kick panel (floor edge). I have yet to see one that wasn't rusted along the bottom. To me that's almost standard equipment rust.
Something to keep in mind is that panel gets covered in carpet or rubber (depending on the year), so any repair to it gets hidden. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

the early cars are solid, without holes for the heater. The heater tube is located under the middle, front part of the rear seat bottom. I just fixed it the best I could and moved on _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof

I have this one.
I should also have some of the rarer bits. Early pop outs, rear window without defroster, passenger seat, seat rails, wide window trim and rubber floor mats.
Reach out via PM if you’re interested in any of it. |

Now that is something you don't see very often, the rear kick panel with a solid lip still on it. Most of those panels have that lip rusted off, at least those that I've seen in the wild. I've repaired at least 5 sets of them over the years, including the set on my 64 T-34. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
