I came across this Vanagon magnet in Skagway. It's the first one I've seen compared to thr Bus stickers and magnets! _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Interesting place to find a magnet like that, when were you through Skagway? _________________ '91 Westfalia, Bordeaux Red Pearl 2.1L 2wd Auto

Unexpected, but yet not. It's a tourist town now and 4 cruise ships a day sometimes makes for a lot of summer camping knick-naks!
I'm working on a small cruise ship going to the places those giant 4000 passenger ships cannot fit. We only carry 49 passengers. Skagway is a weekly stop.
I was more amazed to see 3 Westy's in Sitka. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

That’s good to hear.
There are three in Gustavus / Glacier Bay (ours included).
We didn’t see any in Skagway today (just loaded onto ferry to Juneau) but passed a nicely appointed syncro westy between Whitehorse and Haines Junction on our way here yesterday.
Met two westy’s at same spot two days apart at Stony Overlook at Denali Park two weeks ago and passed another driving into Denali on our way out. Was pleased to know four westies were in Denali NP at the same time.
Total trip count was 9. Only got to visit with three tho - others in passing.

You on a Lindblad ship? Great alternative to those behemoths - four of them docked in Skagway this morning. Crazy amount of people there.

You're in Gustavus! We usually dock in Bartlett Cove on our way out of Glacier Nat. Park.
I'm on the Admiralty Dream of "Alaskan Dream Cruises". 2nd yr. working for them. Not a bad outfit to work for.
I watch them load the Ferry in Skagway and it's always a camper show!
Those floating apartment buildings are a blight on the seas, but luckily some folks can make a living off them. We laugh when we see them at the glaciers for 15 minutes while we're there sometimes for 2-3 hrs. Heading into Tracy Arm tomorrow. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Holy coincidence, Batman! My friend and his family are on that exact ship! (I would've been too, but had to cancel... long story; was on a smaller Royal Caribbean behemoth for that route back in '01. Saw a couple of Vanagons, but was more pleasantly surprised to see a Rabbit Convertible in Ketchikan. ) _________________ ~Kamz

We’ve lots of friends from the lower 48 who have come up on the cruise ships - so much cheaper than the independent traveler route - but they don’t really “see” much of the state unfortunately.
Be great to meet you, send a PM or text/call 9oh7 2oh9 6737 next time you’re coming into Bartlett Cove, buy you a beer on the lodge deck (and hope for sun). Mark _________________ '91 Westfalia, Bordeaux Red Pearl 2.1L 2wd Auto

Ha! Wow. We may have seen them at a crosswalk Truly a bit of a zoo in Skagway today with four ships in. But bummer you missed it - SE Alaska had a couple of nice days before the clouds/wet stuff lowered today so guessing they had a great trip up. Still beautiful tho.
I’be been curious to the ratio of older VW’s per capita up here - seems to be a lot of them tucked away around and about. _________________ '91 Westfalia, Bordeaux Red Pearl 2.1L 2wd Auto

Sorry for the delay in answering. Been a bit busy onboard!
It'd be great to meet up. I'll get in touch not this trip, but next one. I've got an oil change to do when we get into Bartlett Cove. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.
