I am reassambling a 1956 oval window beetle. I bought it already dissasembled.

I have a question regarding the horn brush that goes on the steering column.
The horn brush I was given with the car doesn't fit in the small tube welded on the column outer tube. The horn brush holder diameter is smaller.

On the following picture, at the top, it's the brush currently installed in my 1958 beetle. At the bottom, it's the brush I have for the oval. They seem identical but are a bit different.

Is a part missing (black plastic piece)? If so, where can I find the missing bit?

On the CIP1's website, they sell an after-market part that looks like the one I have on my 1958.

Do you know any other sellers for this part in Europe?

They also sell something looking like this.

Given the description, it should also fit in my oval window, but I don't understand how it can the plugged. It looks so much different.

.

The horn brush holder is smaller because it’s missing the plastic/phenolic insulator sleeve, and apparently the brush is missing as well… just buy yourself a new horn brush assembly, like the one that’s in your ‘58.

Le porte-balais en corne est plus petit car il manque le manchon l' isolateur en plastique/phénolique, et apparemment le balai manque également... achetez une nouvelle brosse en corne comme celle de votre 58.

The brush with the spring is still there but it's worn

I'll follow your advice. Thanks. I just need to find a reseller in France or Europe.

I too would love to know the application of this version :

Many years ago I used to know but for the life of me I can't remember. I also have a few NOS ones tucked away in a box somewhere.

Apparently at Wolfburg West, they sell the 2 versions.

The black one is far less expensive and labelled "economy version". I still don't know what it means and how this is plugged.

.

Same application as the original screw top assembly, just a cheaper aftermarket version with a plastic body.

Both are much cheaper at Wolfsburg West. I have the repro screw terminal version and it seems to be very good quality.

Without the screw terminal, how is the wire connected to it?

.

Wire gets pushed through the slots on top… not ideal, but as long as it makes contact I suppose.
