I think maybe we just got a little spoiled for the short period we had where there was so much available and it all seemed great. I don't remember having so much aftermarket support for things back in the 90s. I wasn't in VWs then, but we had a lot less before the internet blew up and everything became so available. _________________ Brian H.

That is absolutely correct. Nothing fits perfect but some of the crap nowadays needs heat and heavy hammers, other stuff needs polishing. When complete it's all good. Just can't rebuild an engine in a weekend anymore. But it's rewarding putting skills to the task.
Some of the old 1200 leakers with 1000K took more time cleaning parts than assembling. _________________ Never blame lazy people, they didn't do anything. |

That VST is going to be farther off than a set of Dansk heater boxes.
At least the heater boxes can be easily welded/bent to fit it. _________________ Bus Motor Build

My view is if it's not fit for purpose, send it back and try for the cost of that too. If people just accept skanky parts that becomes the norm. Don't make it so easy for the supplier. |

I havent read the thread, but:
this has been the case since at least the early/mid 90s when I first encountered dansk boxes.
the new set I bought last year? exactly the same.
you have to bend them.
yeah, it's not fun.
but that's what you have to do. _________________ ...david - '66 SO-44 #231 |

^ The bent ones must all end up in USA then because in 30+ years I've never heard of this in UK including 9 years I spent full time working on T2s for a living and using UK forums non-stop. |

I am pretty sure I have had several of the Dansk heater boxes over the years, and they fit my bus OK.
This time around I paid the extra for JK's best quality heater boxes, some other supply, I have no idea whose, and the top edges of those are almost but not quite parallel to the bottom of the head.
There is enough space for the clamp to go between the rear support bar and the clamp joining the heater box to the exhaust on my bus.

could be. it's almost always the right side (front is front. passengers side in the US) box that's the problem IME. (and lots of threads about this here, and long ago lots of type2.com/vintagvw/ravw posts too) _________________ ...david - '66 SO-44 #231 |
