|
|
Just purchased a new power window regulator from autohauzAZ. Before installing, I made sure the motor is moving freely and works good. When I installed the regulator, the window goes down a decent speed but when I put it up, it moves slowly at about half as fast. I double checked to make sure the window is aligned correctly and it is nice and square.
I feel the motor will get extra wear and fail quickly if not corrected.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Or do volt drop tests across the various wires, switches etc and eliminate/repair the poor connections that are so resistive. _________________ Jim Crowther

I routinely spray silicone lube from the plastic tube into the channels to keep the glass sliding freely. _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |

the wiring is undersized and the numerous connectors are reducing the voltage and current to the motor. the motor has to work much harder to lift the weight of the window than it does to lower it.
notice the numerous connectors on the run between the driver's side window switch and the passenger side switch. check the voltage on pin 2 and compare with the voltage on pin 5. i will bet pin 5 is around 10 volts.
i eliminated the numerous connectors when i replaced the undersized wiring a few years ago.

I have the same issue. The passenger side is much worse. This might be a fix, but only for the passenger side from 16CV on the Samba. https://youtu.be/FJ0eeUIsrtA?si=5egtbxEGrMCQMwSK |

the issue is the undersized wiring, 4 connectors, and corrosion. the relays are a band aid for the underlying issue IMO. running larger wires and eliminating the voltage drops across the 4 connectors works, just takes more effort. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

Yes sir the issue is high resistance. There 12 connections to get a right side window to work. I've seen some that work like a 60's GM car, Super fast but most I've seen are slow and pokey.
I agree you can re wire with new and larger wire and get a net gain, or put a set of relays in and have a window working in under an hour! All new cars operate most systems through relays for a reason.
I am working on a drivers side up grade, it's just more complicated to make it easy to install.
To the OP, You should have come here to Samba first as I could have Re done your motor and regulator for less then that Aftermarket unit cost you. It will fail quicker and worse than your original one did.
People think that all regulators are the same, hey they all look alike. There are mods that need to be done to any of them before being installed and I can tell you without doubt that the only ones being properly updated are from GW / VC RM.
I will not reveal the differences, but rest assured there are and when yours fails again you will understand.
Safe travels
