At 31yrs old and aspiring fabricator. I needed a project during covid. A bug wasn't at the top of the vehicle list. After talking with my dad and many others I realized everyone had lasting memories of a VW in their lives. They were mostly all good. The smiles and energy I saw when they talked about them made me smile too. I said yep this is the car I want to build. I always thought Baja's were cool and you never see them where I'm at. It was a no brainer at that point.
Now that I've rebuilt the entire car, I guess I'm a air-cooled guy now. I'm totally good with that! Very Happy
Bandit and I got off to a rough start. He fought me the entire way through. It was a bloody battle. In the short time its been on the road. We've already made lasting good memories. I'm sure there are many more to come. Bandit and I are now 7yrs in. I can already tell this is going to a life long relationship.

My aunt had a 69 VW that she bought brand new. She taught everyone of her nephews and niece's how to drive in that thing. She would put five to six of us in it and we would take turns driving. That poor clutch took so much abuse. I can still remember all the laughing as we lurched and bucked from a standing stop and finally got moving. She also had a VW bus that we would all pile into, but we never got to drive the bus. It was years later that I bult a baja bug and I since then I have had several VW projects through the years. I would not consider myself a VW loyalist since I had several other brands but the VW remains the only European car I have ever owned. New to this site since I just bought a 67 squareback, building to be my vehicle that I will tow behind the RV.
