Hello folks,

I have a 2003 Eurovan MV with the key stuck in the ignition.

It's not much of a problem (I can lock the van with another key), but it does pose a security risk (especially when I take it back to the city).

The van starts and shuts off properly. I put the drive in park and turn off the van, but it just won't turn that extra bit counter-clockwise or release the key. I can hear the solenoid in the gear selector actuate when I press the brake. The steering wheel won't lock (obviously, the key is still in the ignition), so it's not being held in by the pressure of the steering lock.

I have tried a bit of penetrating oil (what I had on hand), but that's about it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dan

There's a cable going from the shifter lever to the ignition switch that actuates the key removal lock. Probably needs adjustment. Try rocking the shift lever in park while trying to remove the key.

SOLVED: I removed the steering column cover and noodled around there for a bit with no results. Then, per @trunnion's advice (where I should have started first!), I removed the shifter cover (knob, trim pieces, etc) and pried on the little cable running north of the assembly. The key came right out. I don't see a way to adjust this cable, but I might take things apart again to lubricate it. I hope this helps someone else in the future.

Shift selector lever into "P" position and turn ignition key to end position (ignition off).
Loosen locking cable nuts -1- and -2- at frame.
Push locking lever (arrow) until it touches selector lever.
Secure locking cable in this position on frame.
Operation of the ignition key withdrawal lock must be checked.
