Mine doesn't have those indents but how is yours supposed to be? What is the fix?

Yeah - there's a couple of details like this that I pointed out to the guy who runs the shop, and gave him detailed pix, but the info didn't actually make it to the guys who do the actual work, so... At some point in the future, I'll have to figure out how to fix it. For the short term, I'd like to just get the bus back and finish assembling everything else. This isn't a 100-point car, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it right now.

There should be a little carboard piece there - See this thread:

Yes: I told the shop guy about the cardboard piece, and gave him a picture similar to that one - but that crucial info didn't make it to the guy doing the actual work. What I should have done is made the piece myself and glued it on so there wouldn't be any question.

Got the bus back from the upholstery shop. For the most part, they did a better job than I could have, but they made a couple of small mistakes that I wouldn't have.

This one was just mind-boggling; he thinks he can fix it.

Yes, it's cockeyed, but it's mounted in the original holes

It was very gratifying to get the first skylight installed. I put the seam at the bottom of the window based on the theory that for an observer standing on the ground, the seam would 'blend in' with the roofline and not stand out as much visually.

Installed a new bluetooth adapter from Frederik Larsson, which (unlike old unit) performed flawlessly and without any static - EVEN with all LEDs on truck going!

This allowed me to drive around and annoy the neighbors by blasting Flipper as loud as possible.

Well, as loud as a 4" OG Blaupunkt bus speaker will go...

I have that same green fog light switch. Not stock, but "period correct", and I dig it. PO drilled a hole in the dash that I was going to fill, but I decided that switch deserved to go there. Next owner can weld up the hole...

That was the exact thought process for mine - PO drilled a hole, so now I need fog lights to fill that hole!

Bit of a saga to get a switch that didn't blow a fuse due to live metal shaft... glad we both found one.

It's now officially a 23-window; ///Mink came over and helped me get the rear windows in. The corner windows were an ordeal, but everything else was fairly easy. The skylight windows were about 5 minutes each.

thom, I'lll trase you my shiny new bluetooth adpter for it. Gorgeous work all around.

BarryL, do you mean what frequency, or just an operations desription?
from ad:

Bluetooth adapter for both music/playback and handsfree that fits blaupunkt and other vintage car radios. Fits mono radios from the 60s/70s that have a 6-pin DIN socket with a plastic cover over it* (see photo). Play music wireless to your old original car radio from your iPhone/ smartphone and have handsfree at the same time. Works in both 6V and 12V cars.

-Super easy istallation: Just plug in the DIN jack on the back of your radio. No other cables or battery is needed (other than of course the microphone if you want to use hands free function).
-No drilling: The base of the adapter is magnetic, just place it on top (or bottom) of the radio and you're done with istallation!
-Pair your smartphone/iphone to the adapter. The radio will play as normal but when you start playing (music or other) on your smartphone the radio will automaticly switch to play from the smartphone. When you pause/stop it will automaticly switch back to play radio. After shut down/ power on it will pair automatically to connected phone and be ready to play at once (radio plays until you play something on your phone).
-Connect the microphone (included) and you will have hands free function through the radio/speaker. Hide the mic for example under the steering wheel column, behind fuel gauge grille or other place. When a call comes in, the music/radio stop and you will hear a ring tone through the car speaker and the call will go through the speaker as well (or you install a answering button and you can keep the phone in pocket).
-Optional, but not necessary for function/handling as you can do it from the phone, you can also connect momentary switch/switches to the adapter. One for play/pause/answer/hang up/dial latest number or two more for volume/track up/down.

I turn on radio. Turn on phone or whatever and the device and adapter connect. No issues at all. Not as exciting as thom's work, but I'm happy.

More deluxe-ification. I still need to polish and install the monster long-side piece.

Finally got round to fitting the screw terminal ignition switch that I rebuilt a couple of winters ago... https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10158216#10158216

The repro switch I've been using for the last decade fell apart.

Not a task that lends itself to pictures though.

Got the undercarriage steam cleaned, mainly focusing on the tranny, RGBs and suspension, which had a lifetime of grease and grime. I doubt it's ever been done on my bus. Nice to do a reset! They were careful not to hammer on the suspension joints too much, nor to strip the protective gunk (technical term) that's not meant to be removed. Engine top end was just redone and engine compartment was already cleaned so that area was avoided.

It was kind of hilarious driving over the pit where the lift is located... the track on the bus is so skinny it was barely wide enough to not fall in!

BTW in the San Jose area, San Jose Auto Steam Cleaning is the only game in town. It's hard to tell from looking at the place, but apparently they're the only wash in the area that has the environmental permits.
