July 13, 2025, Anniversary Meeting for the 70th Birthday of the Karmann Ghia Type 14
Hello Karmann Ghia friends worldwide.
I had to process all the impressions before sitting down at the keyboard to write this short report, for everyone who couldn't be there, for everyone who is very interested in the topic, and of course for everyone whose heart beats for the beauty from Osnabrück.
The organizer, Joachim Acker from Osnabrück, had the idea for the anniversary meeting for a long time. Every year, Joachim holds a small meeting around July 14th so that the introduction of the Karmann Ghia is remembered. My wife and I almost always attended, and it was always very nice and fun. Joachim founded his own association to ensure that the Karmann company is not forgotten. He invests a lot of time in it and has some very cool ideas.
For the anniversary meeting, Joachim brought together 70 Type 14 vehicles, including 14 lowlights. We gathered at Osnabrück's market square from 9:30 a.m. I think you know what it's like when a square fills up and you're so impressed by the view and think: wow, another one and another one.
The weather was really nice, the scenery fantastic. The market square in Osnabrück was sometimes used by Karmann to present vehicles. The arrival of the vehicles was organized so that the lowlights drove onto the square first. I already knew that Joachim and Michaela Hess would be there. They both own the Karmann Ghia with body number 39. As far as I know, it's the oldest drivable coupe, if not the oldest coupe still in existence in the world.
At 12 p.m., the assembled vehicles set off from the market square to VW Osnabrück. The VW Osnabrück factory is the former Karmann factory. It's always nice to be there. I live an hour's drive away, and for me, it was visit number 18 to the factory.
VW took over the entire vehicle collection after Karmann's insolvency; it's a must-see. There are approximately 110 vehicles that Karmann collected and VW acquired. Of course, the Karmann Ghia Prototype is also there. All participants were asked to sit down and listen to Joachim Acker's speech. Joachim welcomed everyone present and then passed the microphone to Eberhard Kittler. Mr. Kittler is a motor journalist and spoke extensively about Volkswagen and Karmann. It was very fascinating to listen to him. The works council also spoke, as did a politician from the Osnabrück region. The outlook for the VW plant in Osnabrück is not good, as there are currently no follow-up orders for the plant.
After everyone had said what needed to be said, the collection was open for viewing. Fantastic. Even though I've been to the collection so many times, it's always amazing to see everything that was built there.
Please forgive me for not taking enough photos; I was so busy meeting friends and enjoying it all. Greetings, Udo Dreisörner from Germany

Thank you for the summary, Udo
That survivor ‘57 looks cool! Any more pictures of it? Or the back story?
Hopefully the 75th will see a bigger event, like the 50th in 2005 _________________ -StockRocks- |
