I don't know but to me, worrying about a seat belt snapping in a bus is like worrying you might hurt yourself if the gallows poll snaps and you fall down.

Safety aside, the best driving improvements for my bus was getting retractable 3 point belts that hug the body and the Hankooks. These two items alone made the bus driving experience race-like, compared to what it was before.

Your seat belts, tires, and brakes are the cheapest life insurance you will ever purchase. If you go cheap all bets are off.

Agreed. Windshield wipers, oil, and gas, too!

I called around to a few junk yards today, and asked the guy if he had any VW's and he said which one I said any, and told him I was looking for seat belts for my bus and he said any cars would work, Is that true? or would only jetta and vanaogons work?

Look -- just forget the junkyard seat belts. Get new ones that meet modern standards and have not degraded. Don't cheap out on your most important safety gear.

Same here. I got them out of a non-wrecked, impounded vanagon from the mid-80s and they work like a charm. There is a mounting issue that is easily surmounted with a short trip to Lowe's or Home Despot.

I know this thread is from a long time ago but...is the mounting issue with the bit that is supposed to pivot above the riders shoulder? What is the best way to deal with that? I could add a shim to give the bolt some space but the bolt seems like it's not long enough...

Thanks - I have the hardware, purchased a few years ago from West Coast Metric. The problem is the one bolt doesn't have a shim on it. Posting to photos to compare mine with the example from a youtube video installation of a similar kit. Looks like I might need to replace that bolt with one that is a touch longer and include a shim.
The problem is that the seatbelt doesn't swivel because mounted as is, it is firmly up against the white-covered piece of body trim.

I literally bought bolts and spacers yesterday to solve this problem.

Bolts: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B4PHNB17?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Spacers: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/99992406401...6iBp9Bcm7i

Bit pricey IMO, but I needed the parts quickly. The shoulder on the bolt itself is slightly smaller in diameter than the hole in the shoulder belt bracket, so I suppose you could add a nylon insert if desired, but good enough for me.

Thanks! That's exactly what I need - any chance you can post the dimensions of the washer/spacer? I was going to see if I had some material in the garage so I could just make one myself.
