I just picked up this VW stamp which I was told was believed to have been used by our local news paper for the printing press. I know nothing about newspaper printing but what I do know is that its made of lead and encased in a wood block. If anyone might be able to confirm or deny this Id be willing to listen.

pretty sure that even a small local newspaper would be using hot metal typesetting machines if not a phototypesetting set-up. these didn't use wooden blocks (as far as I know). I'm wondering if the logo has been cut out of a larger plate and attached to the block for use as a 'rubber' style stamp...if the print shop also did general printing work this could be used to stamp the label on a batch of sales leaflets for a local dealer.

Early VW newspaper printing blocks.....all mounted on wood. This is normal.
