I have a new to me 2003 Weekender, the passnenger door handle works sometimes and sometimes takes a while to engage. I tired lubricating the spring in the handle, that seemed to work for a few days. I finally took it apart and cant figure out why it doesn't seem to engage so well.

Does the handle spring look correct/ I noticed at the bottom of the handle there seem to be a bit of metal broken off for what looks like a tab missing?

I looked all over the net trying to find a similar issue but I had no luck.

I managed to fix it by playing around with the angle of the rod, after several ways bending it near the lever I managed to get it to engage correctly.

I believe the door panel has been taken off at least once to possibly replace one of the actuators and the bar was sitting slightly incorectly. It only took me 2 - 3 hours.

Well I tried it again today and it stopped working again. After taking the panel off again scratching my head I beleive I finally figured it out (we shall see). I believe the van has been sitting for long periods of time without being used. I believe the problem has something to do with the door latch not fully returning to the full retraction position, I lubricated the latch and open and shut it many times. Hopefully this solves the problem.

I found out the driver and passenger lever rods are the same length but different shape (at least they are in my van).

Which part did you lube? Did this solve the problem long-term?

We've been on an extended road trip for the past 3 weeks and still have a few more weeks to go. About a week in our passenger door inside latch has begun acting up. At first it didn't seem to work at all. Then after a day or two it began changed to 1st attempt fails but 2nd attempt succeeds. Now some days it works and some days it works on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. Meanwhile the outside handle always works properly.

I'm thinking this sounds similar or possibly the same as what your reported in this thread. Not sure if I want to disassemble the door in the middle of a road trip, and on the opposite coast from home. But if it's as simple as lubing something then that sounds WorthaTry.
