Looks like a great turn out too. Did you win the long distance award? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Another perfect day for cruising across the Southwest. Started out at 36F in Gallup, NM and ended up in Weatherford, OK. Maybe hit 82F at one point in Texas, but was otherwise gorgeous. Didn't even need to roll the windows down, let alone turn on the A/C. The was our longest day at a little over 600 miles. Two 500 mile days left.
The Ghia is running great. Still averaging right around 26mpg at 65-70 mph. Maybe 2 quarts of oil for the while 3000 miles so far. _________________ Later,

Another nearly perfect day for cruising in the Ghia. We were on the road before dawn and saw our first bit of precipitation of the whole trip as a super fine drizzle fell for a few minutes. Lol. Rest of the day was gorgeous with temps no higher than the upper 70s and lots of sunshine. We pushed a little extra and made it to Effingham, IL for the night. 670 miles for our longest day of the trip. Just 6.5 hours (421 miles) to go.
The Ghia is still running great and still getting right around 26 mpg.
It was interesting to go from the dry, vast, flat plains of western OK to the lush, green trees and rolling hills of Eastern MO and western IL.
Had a great breakfast stop in Tulsa to meet up with some family we hadn't seen since 2019.
One more relatively short day to go... _________________ Later,

Today was THE perfect day for the last leg of our epic roadtrip to Las Vegas in Jill 's 1967 Type 34 Karmann Ghia. Mid-60s temps, lots of sunshine, light breezes, light traffic, and a relatively short 421 mile day. Rolled into home about 5pm after a late relaxing start to the day.
11 Days. 4505 miles round trip. Only issue was picking up a sheet metal screw in the right front tire in the Orleans Hotel parking lot. Quickly plugged it and good to go. The Ghia ran great the whole trip. Easily cruising at 65-70 mph amd getting 26ish mpg. I have all the numbers and will do a summary tomorrow.
Great trip, but great to be home too. _________________ Later,

OK, I realize this thread has been boring without pics. LOL. I got around to editing the pics from the trip and uploading them to my website. Here is the first photo dump with pics from our 4500+ mile road trip to and from the One Crazy Weekend VW Show in Las Vegas. These should be in roughly sequential order from starting and ending in our driveway in Dearborn MI.
Big smiles as the adventure begins...
Quick stop near Carthage, MO to recreate this image from 15 years ago with my Squareback, Sophy...
Made to the Orleans Hotel & Casino...
6 of the 8 Type 34 KGs that made it to the show...
The Type 34 KG group driving tour of the Red Rocks Canyon...
Dinner with some of the Type 34 owners...
All smiles as we head for home after 3 days in Las Vegas...
Stopped to stand on the corner in Winslow, AZ.
A perfect motto for life...
Midpoint Cafe in Adrian, TX. The halfway point of Route 66 between Chicago and LA.
Definitely back in the midwest with our humidity...
...and the lush green tall trees.
Crossing back into Michigan after 11 days on the road...
Still smiling 4500 miles later...
I will do another post with pics of all the Type 3 at the show... _________________ Later,

Now looking thru those, it really looks like there was a good turn out. Quite a few type 3s, and some we've never seen before. The "Future Shock" type 3 is one I haven't seen in a long time. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
