I have the opportunity to buy a lightened (11.3# or 5.13kg) for my 40hp.

What are the benefits/negatives for a lighter flywheel in a primarily street driven car? The engine is stock. I would like to "build" a slightly hot rodded 40hp at some point which is why I was thinking about this.

I had a lightened flywheel on my bmw e30 with a straight six and a mild cam and loved it.

Thanks

Throttle/ revs is quicker for the most part; less weight/ mass to get moving and less mass that keeps spinning.
Heavier flywheel tends to dampen engine vibrations better, you get less 'engine braking' effect with stock weight also. Counterbalanced crankshafts and lightened flywheels for regular driver cars have little 'benefit' overall. But they do offer a slightly different driving personality than normal. Depending on the engine final specs you sometimes have to turn the idle up, the light flywheel won't idle as slow and smooth usually.
You may like it or not, but as far as being 'better' than stock on a street /mild/stock engine...it's really just opinion.
The engine might 'feel' a bit peppy-er.
