I have a '65 with the 1200 motor.

Previous owners had converted, at least some parts to 12v. When the starter went out, I replaced with a 12v starter, but (as some of you will point out) did not realize that the 109-tooth/180mm flywheel is not made for the 12v starter.

Long-short is that my 180mm flywheel has been worn by the 12v starter. Pictures below.

I now need a new flywheel. I would like to stick with the 180mm and get a new 6v starter.

Does this all make sense? Can someone point me to where I might get a new 180mm/109 tooth flywheel?

A quick search in the classified turned up this https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2601634
It's just 1 example. If you search, you may find 1 closer to your location or it looks like MOFOCO has some https://www.mofoco.com/category/Flywheels/c131

The ring gear on your flywheel has already been replaced.
You can get a replacement from Gene Berg in either 6 or 12v.
Heat up the flywheel in the oven and you can knock out the old ring and install a new one of your choice.

@mlapp007 - Depending on your transmission, choose the correct starter shaft end support bushing. Look here:

If your electrical system is 12v, consider using a 12v solenoid on 6v starter. Look here:

Suggest upgrading to 200mm 6 volt flywheel. Clutch disc will last longer, for less maintenance time spent.

Then 6 volt starter with 12 volt solenoid if you are running 12 volt battery.

Research is a must before just stuffing parts into the car.

Get another 6v flywheel. Then you can get a 12v starter designed for a 6v flywheel

@ CB Performance https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/2145.htm?s...9JI2uxqTxF

IMI is a little less expensive https://www.kustom1warehouse.net/Imi_high_torque_starter_for_VW_Volkswagen_p/hitorquestarter.htm

Since you're in the DFW metroplex, call Will @ Cal-Look Performance in Sanger. He can definitely fix you up.
