Damn, that's looking good Jason. And having Pedro there to inspect it is worth a lunch and a bottle of Patron. |
He defiantly liked it. Nothing like the Pedro seal of approval. _________________

It's kind of hard to keep the inside clean without a top. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Clean it as good as you can before putting the top down, nothing like hitting the highway and it all starts getting in yours eyes. Safari's do that too, Good times...

I remember watching it suffer through those wet coastal mornings without a top during the Type 3 Rally. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

Five years in the making, two years to complete. She's finally done! Well all the big parts.
Went down to Chula Vista L St yesterday to pick her up and pay the final total. Labor only to build this and includes final tweaks to the top with some rewelding - $3900 as I know lots of you want to know. I am compiling the overall costs now for the entire build.
Very exited to say the least. Now I can dial in all the little stuff never done since Cayucos. This car was rushed to get to that event, then I was back and forth on a bring in date from the top guy - Octavio @ Davalos so I never really jumped back in, then it was off in Mid March? Till yesterday.
First on the list is a decent wash. Then Ill jump into the motor and fix the pushrod lengths, then some fun and put an abarth on. Then back to Discount to balance the front tire correctly as it gets speed shakes.
Little stuff, but for now Im going to look at it for a bit.

Fantastic result!
Looks like your rear window is an exact match to that from the '61 factory brochure.
Is your headliner the perforated/polka dot white vinyl pattern?
You probably know from Type 1 Ghia Cabrios, but when you put your top down, place a soft flannel cloth the size of the rear window, or slightly larger onto the OUTSIDE of the window. When the top folds so that the window folds down onto itself, the flannel (terrycloth bath towel is also OK) prevents the clear vinyl from touching, thereby reducing abrasion from body vibrations in normal driving use. |

It looks great without a top too, just saying.... |
Thanks brother. Most of it is technically custom bespoke stuff. Since they were never made, and this is a copy of the known prototype ones in Germany. _________________

The top is the direct relationship Pedro has with Octovio, the upholster guy that made it. Octavio built the top based on Pedro guidance using adverts like that one there - the 1962 Frankfurt Auto Show version - of which my top is very simular to.
Yes sir - perforated vinyl headliner and defiantly know the towel trick

When I see such a fine T34, I feel like before I would enter it, I need to straighten my tie and tilt my fedora just right. If I smoked I would clean my pipe first, too. Such a gentleman's car! _________________ Current Fleet:

Thank you sir. Im not quite there but Im close.
So this motor has a 74mm crank and 83mm pistons. That's a Super 1600 - proper. Fist time ever even thinking of doing it. Ron did a fine job on assembly. But we forgot one thing...
With longer stroke comes longer push rods...
Totally flaked on that. This motor has done its first 1000 miles on short PR. The most noticable - after warm up - would pop. My guess from the valves not closing all the way. Otherwise drove like a gutless wonder. Yall may recall switching out the stock dizzy for an Oh'9 in the parking lot of Cayucos Beach Inn. That was my first ignorant go to not realizing the rocker geometry was waaay off.
So today armed with ambition, I over simplified the Geometric rocker arm calculations and made some longer push rods. I eyed the MoFo. I needed to be in the 5mm longer range as well as lining up the rocker head with the valve stem, throw in what stock distance looks like and I think I nailed it.
After cutting some new Long Chromoly Cut to Length rods, installed them, and adjusted the valves along the way with new adjustment stems.. She runs a million times better! Very impressed with how the motor sounds when the valves work properly
Next is putting the stock dizz in and the Abarth Ashpuff.
