Has anyone ever used this Universal 5-Lug Torque Meister adapters by the company The Dub Shop? I just saw it posted on FB and was quickly drawn to it as I remember when I sold my first bus a 1966 the new owner couldn't get the nut off the wheel and struggled for hours. It was located in an area with no power to use an impact wrench which I assume would work easily. Would this be for the toolbox for a road trip? Please school me.
Also I see on their site the plate for sale but what about the other parts, bar for socket and gear which do not show up on their site. Are they parts I should be aware of? I don't need this for my bus but possibly my next bus or a road trip? Also do I understand correctly it is designed to keep more torque in one location?
Extending my education on tools, vehicles and everything in-between.

Linda, The drum gear the DubSHop is producing is, an improved gear over the OG gear that's supplied with the torque meister tool kit.
The OG drum gear fit is a little tricky to use, some times.
Yes this is a tool you can pack in your roadtrip tool bag incase, you need to get to your rear brakes. Otherwise it's a struggle to fight the axle nut off the brake drums.

The original torque meister was an amazing tool but expensive then the knock offs showed up. They were sloppy and a bit of a pain to use but were effective with some effort. One big problem is they will not fit non VW bolt patterns IE Porsche 5 lug. Looks like this is only the part that bolts to the brake drum and will adapt to different bolt patterns. You’re going to need the other part. If you can find an original and actual Torque Meister get it they’re hard to find. But this is going to be useful for Porsche alloy users. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Not needed for a trip.
Before said trip, remove lugs one at a time, lubricate with antiseize, torque to 70% of spec using tool in car. Ignore the Internet parrots who say lug fasteners should be dry.
For the big nut, same approach. Take it off, lube it, reinstall and put the pin in.
You can always find a cheater pipe if needed. _________________ 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🍊 🍊 🍊 |

once again with your shit advice....
read the manual, it states clean and dry like 99.99% of all lugs by every car maker.
Porsche wants a specific grease with some of their wheel hardware...but they have done the R&D on this.
Listening to someone telling you to drop your torque 30% sounds like a really great fucking way to cause some problems or death.
or do what I do. cross thread and 14 ugga duggas with a 1" impact
and yes, that is a nice piece, I own one as well _________________

On trips I carry this. It’s cheap and if you don’t want to pack a 3 pound sledge hammer, they’re easy to get ahold of one in an emergency. Just Uber to Lowe’s.
I’ve used mine a lot. It’s in my recovery tote when I pull them out of fields and barns. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Thanks 67rustavenger, I wonder why the Dub shop doesn't sell the complete tool kit? Thanks for that link too, as it really explains a lot more for me.

pondoras box, very cool tool especially because it doesn't take up a lot of room, what is it called? Also what controls that leverage, is it that small distance?

It’s the Empi 5748 axle nut tool. It comes in 36 mm for bugs and small nut buses and 46 mm for big nut buses. You hit the flats with a 3 pound sledge hammer. I’ve never had a bearing failure after using these like some people will tell you. The torque tool is definitely smoother and I have one but couldn’t tell you when the last time I even took it out of the box. Like I said above there is a huge difference between the torque tool sold today and the original Torque Meister. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

| The down side of the one pondoras box listed is if you miss with the hammer, you might bash the bus. |

I haven’t hit one yet but if your aim isn’t the best aim twice swing once? I guess. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

I would carry that smash tool, a 36 mmsocket, and a 24 inch breaker bar.
The other knowledge to pass is make the final tightening of your lubricated lug bolts with your tool that you carry , not a giant impact or pipe. Use the same tool to put them on that you will take them off, in short.
You can get a 24 inch bar cheap ftom Harbor Fright, and use your weight as a torque reference to get them sorted.
Lug bolt torque is non critical, there is a wide range of utility between “wont come loose” and “ will distort brake drum/disc”, especially with drums.
For the 36 mm socket, you will end up in the same place lubed or unlubed, with more clamp force lubed. Remember it’s torque, then advance to next cotter pin.
A 24 inch bar and 36 mm socket will take off a lubed 36mm socket on the road, you might need a friend to step on it with you if you are petite. My Amazon girl unscrews them with her hands, she also bends breaker bars on dates to see if they run. _________________ 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🍊 🍊 🍊 |
