Just picked up this “coachbuilt” lowlight ghia today, looks to be a Dec 57 built 1958. Honestly pretty impressed with the work on it, it’s absolutely hideous but I love it lol.

Is that work equivalent to Botox for cars? Laughing It certainly is an acquired taste.

Maybe we must learn to understand this car. "Seldom romantic" style it is and a pioneer of safety cars with huge collapsible areas it may be. Imo, it´s rather a private homebrew. Was it ever finished?
Is the engine original, or is there something special inside?
Was it made for carnival, secret service or stock car use?

From what I was told it was done when the car was new, it was finished in a metallic flake green with a black vinyl roof. Why it was built is still unknown but it was a finished driving car back in the day. The engine is long gone unfortunately so no telling what was used.

The "flat across" front reminds me of a Renault Caravelle/Floride:

Saw an ad that said 60's body and took a good look and it was an early September 57 lowlight Ghia body with pan matching #'s the steering wheel was there and the waffle visor and the rear bumper with an original Uber rare hurst bumper accessory owner said his mom side swiped an 18 wheeler back in 1970 and it demolished the driver's side and front clip front bumper over the years the son removed the engine then the tranny and then the front end for his oval beetle that belonged to his dad. Been sitting since 1970 on that hill until I came and dragged it off the mountain

Don't want to nit-pick but it's a Sept '57 at the earliest. Hurst bumpers are a nice score.
