My beetle came with these plastic mirrors and I am not really a fan. I would like to replace them. I notice that the left door mirror mounting hole size is substantially larger than the right. It looks almost like a nutsert in the right door. Is that removable? When I look up the standard mirror to purchase on JBugs for example it looks like the mounting size of the standard mirror (right & left) is the same as the left side on my car. Anyway, curios on the community advice on this situation.

Thank you,

I don't think I can directly hep with this, but VW convertible outside mirrors had a larger thread than sedan mirrors.

Maybe something like this has been done?

Original thread size seems M16 (assume coarse thread).

It looks very much as a nutsert to me.
Easy to remove, just drill the outer material away. Usually a drill 0,5mm smaller than the outside diameter of an unused one works great. The boring part is to get the removed piece out of the cavity it lands in.

Good luck! Smile
