Hi Folks, there is a large "donut" shaped depression in the drum in between the two bearing races.
When I too the drum of it was full of grease , up to the level of the bearing rollers roughly. I guess in the mists of time I must have thought of that as a sort of "grease reservoir" for the bearings.
What do you guys do. Just grease the bearings?
I've seen photos of the whole cavity full of grease on the other hand.
cheers

| The grease cavity should be approx. 75 percent full of new grease. It is at least as important to clean/replace and repack the bearings themselves properly. |

| I have always greased the bearing, installed the drum, filled the cavity with grease, pressed the bearing in place which squeezes some grease out, tightened nut or pinch bolt, and done. |

For the grease to 'move' from this reservoir to the bearing the bearings would have to get as hot as the melting temp. of the grease.....I don't think so. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 45 yrs - Plan B: '72 Ghia
