How many people here run breathers? What size engine and what compression? I have a 2176 9.3:1 CR that I just broke in and it runs great, but the pushrod tubes leak at the ends. I used new seals and these are the scat spring loaded tubes. I am going to try greasing the seals and adding a breather. Should this solve my problem? Thanks... |

Don't be fooled like I was. They often look like they are leaking because the rocker studs are leaking. Check that out before you tear it down THREE DAMN TIMES like I did.
Breather boxes.. good for strokers or very high revving short stroke engines. I use the cheapie kind on my 2332 12:1 engine, and it does just fine. For the street, a cheapie will do fine.. If you are planning to rev it up big time you better get a good one... that left side head will pump oil into the box big time. A lotta guys use quart size or bigger boxes. |

1904cc, 9.25:1 Berg breather..... no leakes or blowby.
Why would you use spring loaded pushrod tubes?
I've never had a problem with standard ones. _________________ Glenn

I have one of the cheap aluminum breather boxes on my 10.5:1 2276cc. It works well, but I'm liking the looks and price of the Airspeed box and thinking of upgrading to that. I do have a few leaks, but nothing I'd associate with venting issues.
My 9.3:1 1835cc has no breather except for the stock vent hose to one of the Kadron air cleaners. That engine doesn't leak a drop, and get's beat daily.

I run a empi behind (in front of) the motor on the firewall kind. It's tapped into the valve covers. I've never had problems wirth it but having a motor in the past with blow-by issues, I didn't want to take the chance. |

How is that CB breather. I hear that it is like the Berg breather except $150 less and doesn't look as cool. Does it come with inlets/ outlets? If so how many? I need a breather, and this is the first CB that I saw. Any info or additional pics you could give would be awesome.
Thanks. |

I run a 2110cc daily with 10:1 compression. I use a cheap-o Empi style breather box mounted above everything on the firewall. Tubes run to both valve covers, motor is very dry. Hope this helps. _________________ CasteSystms Performance

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I really like the look of the CB breather that attaches to the alternator stand. It looks a lot more like part of the engine, plus it keeps me from having to mount the box on the firewall. As long as it clears my linkage, I'll probably be going that way... |

Ya could run two Bugpack breather box's inline line photo here.Works good for me and don't cost a lot.Not as "bling" as some of the others however....Why "two" ? More air flow with less resistance.

Yeah, I run one cheap EMPI box and also the CB unit. I like the CB box but it took about a week to make it stop leaking. I needed to use sealant along with the o-ring for the cover. Mine is on a 2276 with 10 to 1 compression. |

I have a CB unit ready to put on, but I can't decide how I want to plumb it - physics suggest all lines should go above what the max level of oil is going to be, and unfortunately it's hard to know that. The top back hole seems like a good place to put a breather relief filter. THe gasket looks crappy too. Too bad they didn't opt for a channeled gasket or a full O-ring. This thing is like an O-ring sliced in half, so it is flat on one side, and radius on the other. Goofy. |

Stock 1600DP. It's a little overkill, but I got tired of it leaking oil.

I run the cheap Empi breather. Never a leak! Just a few drops hear and there from the sump plate. _________________ 1974 Super Beetle-turbocharged 1915-mine

Hey, who's linkage are you using, and how do you like it with the DTM? I am looking at going with bellcrank, and wanted to get opinions of users similar to me. |
