How does this give lift to a bug?
What parts are needed?
What are the steps involved?
I searched and theres really no good post about this explaining it well.
BTW, my book is in the mail |

Try searching on "RGB" for Reduction Gear Box.
Also search for "Bugzylla". He sells adapters.
It gives you lift just like a Hummer axle, by using gears to drop down from the normal axle location.
Check this thread for some pics:

Damn! That's ninja!
Looks like time for some of those high-rise fenders!
I test-drove a RGB baja once, with maybe 30"s on the back. It topped out about 45, but it got there quickly! I guess you don't have that problem... _________________ Insanity: /ɪnˈsænɪti/ -noun: repeatedly voting for the same party and expecting different results.

Cheers guys. The big tires run fine because of the reduction boxes.
Pic from front as requested.

so all i would need are adapters and the boxes themselves??
what kind of gear reduction are we talking? im going to probably put 31"s on the back, so that should offset the boxes. i do need to be able to drive highway speed. |

Remember reducs also reverse everything so you need your ring and pinion switched or do a bus box with bug nosecone.
I have big nut reducs and 30x9.5 tires so my gearing is back to pre-reducs
I have some bugzilla adapters and i like the ones Hebster52 has in his picture much much better. _________________ www.Full-Race.com

Hebster52. Do you have a source for those adapters? I have the Bugzilla ones and wish I didn't. |

Just curious, is thereanyway to have 1:1 gears made for the redux boxes? I know that they are specifically made to reduce the gear ratio, but I just want the 3" of lift and I don't want to go with IRS. Also, how well do they stand up to power? I've got a 300hp TIV motor coming soon which is also the reason I don't want IRS. |

none of the reduction boxes were ever built to have a ratio of 1:1. they were meant for more ground clearance and the extra torque in hauling around the extra steel in the busses as well as up to 1 ton of a load. as far as power they're able to withstand, i personally can't help you there. a friend of mine is building a high power type 1 for a bus with reduction boxes but also with a well built trans. _________________ OGST | CU05 | OGJHC

Turkish...
Without going into repetitive details... your combo of power and tranny will not work.
Sounds like you're a rancho IRS candidate.

What I'm worried about is how well the CV's and whatnot will hold up to hard launches as I plan to use the car for some strip use. When I got off-road I don't really romp it hard, I'm more of a trailrider than a romper so I don't need all the suspension travel that IRS gives but I do want the strength of swingaxle. I'm also doing this kind of on a budget. The T4 I'm getting is a zero mile block with quite a few worked over parts($1600 into heads alone by Competition Engineering and a cam to match) for $600 off a friend of mine. Exhaust for the turbo will be made by another friend and the turbo to go on that will be supplied by yet again another friend who owns a turbo shop out in Tempe, Arizona. I was just hoping I could use the redux boxes to getmyself some more ground clearance due to the design of the TIV exhaust. |
