yep, buy that bus! I have a '60 panel and used to have a '77 deluxe as well at the same time. It was nice to have both, like everyone else's response, I could hop in the '77 and go 75mph on the freeway into town to get vw parts, groceries, lumber, whatever, and haul ass back to home doin 75-80mph cuttin' people off and racing the Honda's just for fun, stopping in dead-stop traffic with ease, just driving like the other morons around here in Phx, or worse sometimes! But anyways it is very cool to have both, especially with that one being one owner and all that, if you don't buy it, let us know so we can get grabs on it! Good Luck with your decision! Late. -Mark. |

I've owned a few busses in my time, (4 bays,1 vanagon, and just recently 1 split) I have a japanese(eek) car that I drive when I need heat or a/c. Other than that I'm in the '71 westy which is completely driveable and usable. I just got a '67 deluxe and after a couple of weeks in that, it makes the 71 seem way advanced, driveable and functional (although not as cool looking). It also makes my late model car seem like overkill. Don't debate just drive em all so other people can wish they had a "cool ol' bus" like you! |

I picked up a '71 for $500.00 with a bad oil leak. Turned out to be oil cooler seals. I spent about $600.00 on busboys kit F&R, and I'm preping it for paint. I'll be sitting around $2500.00 after odds and ends. I don't think thats bad. By the way, I'm painting it myself. It would be much more to have someone do it. You can't do that with a split much anymore. I always love the splits but i'm fond of the bay's too. |

I was convinced, I went Bay. What a beauty she is. I am currently giving her a major overhaul, she sat for almost 15 years. Can you believe I need to replace the old, still holding air 4-ply tires. I just finished the brakes, need to reinstall the engine, then hit the road for our maiden flight. This bus is so cool, it is 33 years old and retaines most orriginal parts. I took off rear shocks that were stamped VW Made in Germany. When I removed the shield that covers the gas tank behind the engine, I could almost hear the German air escaping, as the seal was air tight and the gas tank compartment was pristine, just as it was 33 years ago when it was sealed up. I even took a picture of it. As you can tell I am falling in love with my new Bay. She is not perfect but she has no rust and sports her orriginal paint, which will easily buff and polish to a high shine. She has a few small dents, but I would rather keep the orriginal paint and accept the occasional ding as 33 years of good Transporting.
Thanks for all the advice, Ill get a Picture of my Rose in the Gallery soon.
We will also be at several of the California VW events this spring.
