I bought two dune buggy bodies, an improperly shortened pan, and a irs trans for $150.00. They are in poor condition but I may be able to save them. One of them needs a hood. Is there a way to id them to look for a hood. Are hoods interchangeable? I'm going to need to put the halves back together (the last owner cut them in half to try to make a full size dune buggy. It never happened)

There's hundreds of buggies made. Some fit others, some don't. Most are Manx clones and if done right other Manx type hoods "should" fit. Yes, you can ID buggies...but a picture would be needed.

I have been doing some looking around and asking a lot of questions about fiberglass buggy's. I have found that there are a lot of home-made buggy's, and not a good way to id them. There is an id number on rear fender(in theory) I have never found one. Like the last reply said a picture is the best way to id them. I have a buggy that I bought from an old hippy about 3 years ago and have sent some pictures all over and knowbody could id it. It is a very good job, but still no way to id it.

You can also send pictures of your buggy over to Bart Shoemaker at www.dunebuggyarchives.com for identification. Bart also frequents www.dune-buggy.com and a picture or 2 there wouldn't hurt.
Farfrumovin, I'm under the impression that the majority of bodies are not 'home built' but rather 'fly by night' companies that were trying to benefit from the buggy craze in the late 60's early 70's. Most buggies do not have ID tags, and several are very poorly made, less than 1/8 inch thick fiberglass. _________________ OG JHC

Yes, you are correct in the "fly by night" companies. I guess I should have worded it better. I have a green colored buggy with a lot of sparkles in it. I will have to figure out the digital camera so I can take some newer photo's.
