I dropped 1/4 inch on my air filter height and felt the power loss. See if you can find a slightly taller air filter; it just will make taking the air filter tops off a little more challenging. Mine are VERY close to touching (but aren't) the engine lid surround. I understand engine dynamics/physics as well and know from that perspective that the lower surface area creates a restriction, too. I bet if you put it on a dyno you'd see the difference as you're engine is only 103cc bigger than mine |
Unless he's got too much restriction in the exhaust, or the CB injection is doing some sort of compensation when the lids are off. _________________ Tony

The spark plug wires are Bosch for a type 3, The fuel injection system works great.
As for you others that are trying to figure out problems I DON'T have, Get a life!!! Bring your oil soaked hoopty to Bug-O-rama and we'll race.
I'll beat you even with my tiny air filters and weak blue coil. |

Just trying to help you get more power outta yer engine, kiddo, so relax. Bigger air filters and an improved ignition system are simple ways for getting more power. Synthetic oil and an improved ignition system will get more power and mileage outta ANY old air-cooled engine, even stock.
Drag race posturing won't prove who's engine puts out more, particularly since there is the nut behind the steering wheel that can screw up the formula (and transmission gearing and wheel diameter, too). You wanna prover your engine's power? Post a dyno chart _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

Why would I want a life? I've got TheSamba forums.
Heck, this way I don't even have to worry about actually making my T3 run! _________________ Tony

OK just what other filters did you have in mind AC Nut? I have Dells on my car and they use the same filters as Daniel and the same intakes as the EFI AND the throttle bodies are the same height as my Dells. They just barely clear the lid as it is. So I don`t think its possible. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

I think the only way you can fit taller air filters such as AC Nut is if your rear engine mounts are worn and the motor is sagging in the rear to allow more clearance to fit them. I also have tried to fit the same air filter elements as AC Nut and they were nowhere near being able to fit.
And also AC NUT, My name is not Kiddo.
And is the reason you don't want to race that you are scared you will throw your alternator belt on your original alternator system in front of a crowd and then have to readjust with a mallet |

The way you're acting, it's rather appropriate.

Actually, I auto-cross, which takes more skill and car than drag racing (which I've also done), which is dominated by engine, loosly speaking (my opinion, others will disagree, so what). And again, a dyno would show who's engine has more power than a petty, chest-thumping 1/4-mile race you naively think as the bottom-line to a vehicle's merrits.
As to my alternator, I can rev over 6500rpm and not throw it. Besides, even if it were to go, it wouldn't stop the car. But I'll give you credit for attempting to one-up me, even though it's pathetically sophmoric. I tried to give you kudos for the work you did (BTW, w/today's belts adjustments aren't necessary) and was simply suggesting a way to improve your power but you just turned into RubyRed. It's obvious I have forgotten more than you think you know. When you actually contribute to the T3 society with more than a "look at me" mentality then I might offer you some respect, but until then, I'm done with your post so if you want to attempt a come-back that you want me to read then you'll need to PM or email me because I'm out of here for this thread. _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

funny, my alternator is the same set up as air-cooled_nut's and i ahve seen 7k without throughing the belt. i have pictures somewhere of his car launching at the yakima, washington strip after driving there from portland, oregon.
you got props for a nice looking set up, and then immediately went into chest thumping mode. maybe i am just getting crochity in my old age, but that crap gets old. _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

i admit i don't know much about drag racing, but every drag car i've seen doesn't have a belt. |

Actually, there is another way. I'm going to run the same FI as you on a 2332 I'm having built, but I'm milling the throttle bodies down shorter to run taller filters. Little more work, but there are other ways to do it... _________________ Phillip Bradfield
