Hey folks! !st post here, I was sent here by a friend who said if anyone can help me it'll be someone from this forum...
Yoiks... It was just one of those things. The noises were subtle at first... then got worse and the WAY WORSE. At first it was just a slight "whirring" noise when the clutch was in... then it became a grinding sound as I let the clutch out... a sound not unlike metal to metal brakes. The more serious it sounded the more expensive I figured it would be... although deep down I was hoping it was just a bad throw out bearing.
Well...
Pulled the engine yesterday and the T/O bearing looked ok, but there was crap all over the bellhousing... pulled off the pressure plate and I've never seen anything like it... the clutch disk is in 3 pieces loosely held together, the flywheel is all chewed up... so's the pressure plate.
What am I going to do??? Does anyone have any of this stuff? everywhere I call they've sold there diesel vanagon stuff for L4 gas conversions!!! Does anyone have one of these beasts in there yard that they'd sell the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch from?? If not I'm in a world of trouble... university is just starting back up and I need a vehicle to get to class...
HELP SAVE A STUDENT!!! |

Parts-wise, hit up Bus Depot ( www.busdepot.com ) .. I don't know how extensive their diesel line is, but it's a start. I know they carry some diesel items.
Also, there are a few die-hard diesel dudes on the Vanagon.com mailinglist. Join that, and post your problem. I'd suspect you'd get a helping hand there.
Sorry, just gasoline at my end. Good luck! |

They have diesel van parts. I checked on their site and looks like they have everything to do a clutch job. If you are still having trouble finding stuff, PM me with a little more info and I can come up with actual part numbers that might help you a little more in your parts search. |
