This will be my first VW, so I have a bit of a learning curve, but I think I'm learning pretty quick. It's a 69, but I'm going to switch to 64 fenders, hood, decklid, bumpers, and fenders.
It isn't much of a looker right now, but it's complete and running.

Trying on one of the 64 fenders.
The panels need a lot of work (surface rust and a few dings), but I wanted to try them on to make sure everything lines up. _________________ 1962 Beetle Sedan - Back on the road after 17 years

Here's what I'm hoping the finished product will look like.

Should look pretty sweet. I am restoring a '69 right now to look bone stock. Just curious, why didn't you just get a '67 or older bug to begin with for your project? _________________ -- Steve

Primarily because I couldn't find a complete 67 or older in my budget. Also, the better visibility with the smaller b pillars (helped convince the wife it was safe).
I pretty much figured most parts are interchangeable, so I'd just get something to start with, then add whatever parts I want. My last project was a 72 El Camino SS, so I wanted it completely bone stock (except for the 500 HP 454 of course). This time around, I just wanted to have fun with something. The earlier I got, the more I'd want to keep it stock. _________________ 1962 Beetle Sedan - Back on the road after 17 years

I've been watching your progress. You got a much better car than I did to start. It's looking great.
My front's a bit mangled too. I'm trying to straighten it as much as possible until I can get a welder and get my skills up to par. _________________ 1962 Beetle Sedan - Back on the road after 17 years

maybe the air vent is different for air-conditioning system, just a guess though. My bug looks nice Because it had a cover up paint job and in pictures you cant see the non-poped out dents from a roll-over or something. _________________ GoodVanGarage |

I have no idea, I bought it that way. Maybe it originally had air conditioning as german69 said. I looked at it though, and it looks like it was made that way. I can see something else was attached as well (A few screw/bolt holes).
Either way, it'll be changed back eventually. I heard the original AC was junk.
I thought someone would comment on the 70's looking louvers in the decklid. I'm replacing that next! _________________ 1962 Beetle Sedan - Back on the road after 17 years

It was in the car. It was so dirty, i guess they just pulled it off. I drove it around the block without one. I'm getting another one before I start it again. _________________ 1962 Beetle Sedan - Back on the road after 17 years

I've been researching front apron stuff. Looks like I may need to replace the front clip at some time, since the bumper mounts are different from 64 to 69 (inside vs. outside) and my front clip is pretty tweaked anyway. It seems like a pretty risky and involved process though. So, until my welding skills are up to par, I may just straighten it as much as possible and use the special brackets for early bumpers.
I'll try to get some pictures of it up tomorrow. _________________ 1962 Beetle Sedan - Back on the road after 17 years

I live in San Diego and had my '69 Autostick shipped from Alabama because the body was straight -- to avoid these problems. There were a few minor rust issues and don't ask me how much mud, leaves and hornets nests I found in there as I stripped it down though.
Next project is comin' from Nevada or Arizona... _________________ -- Steve

Good Luck with your 69 Beetle project! I bought my a long time ago for $100 - it was a "complete rust bucket" but just kept working on it and now its almost done...Be patient...
I had so much fun with my first one I am now starting on my second...
