It had a modified engine decklid to make room for it.

Isn't the VR6 engine really heavy? I wonder how that car handles?

I don't know. I talked briefly to the owner but he didn't mention the handling. Isn't it an all aloy engine?

The Suby is a nice fit, but the Alpha sticks out too far for my taste. Either way, nice fabrication work Applause

Most run them under the car, along the center tunnel or under the heater channels. Some run them through the tunnel, which is the hardest, I think.
And some run them in through the car, over the floor and then use a false floor.
But I wouldn't do that, because of the heat that's transferred into the cabin and imagine what would happen in an accident.
Heat transfer might also be a problem when running them through the tunnel, btw.

Where is your subi conversion thread?

There was a Ghia here in Oklahoma City where the owner had cut off the rear fork of the frame and adapted the rear from a Pontiac Fiero. He had the radiator up front but plumbed the cooling lines through the tunnel back to the engine.

Anything is possible with enough fabrication, time, and money.

Anyone know of a diesel conversion? Something like a Lupo 3l motor would fit and give 75hp (chipset).

Never seen one in a beetle. Yes, the 3 cylinder Lupo 3l engine would be great! This engine is also found in the polo, some seats, skoda fabia and the small Audi (A2?). There is a 1.2 version, which is the one in the 3L and a 1.4 version, which has 90 hp (if I remember correctly).

The only problem with these engines is that the wrecked cars are still relatively expensive (I would like a complete car), and this engine has a "can bus" (or something like that) system which might be difficult to tie into your beetle wiring loom.

But it is a nice compact, smooth running, economical and powerfull engine.

i have seen pics of a golf diesel beetle but i cant find any of it atm
as u can see by my sig i have a 70 beetle
when i bought it it had already been fitted with a 13B rotary but theyre not my first choice in engines
main thing when converting a vw is to rememebr they were built for flat 4 motors, inline engines throw off the center of gravity
i dunno how these guys with twincam toyota engines go
i noticed the handleing in mine wasnt as good anymore despite being converted to IRS lowered caster shims porsche rims etc.
the EJ series subi engines are plentyful and cheap here and give very impressive results and are not much differtn physically to a vw engine

theres a guy here in aus with a 2.5L mazda V6 engine in his baja
its got massive offroad mud tyres on it so would never be in the ultimate handeling department anyway but with 200hp on tap it gets moving pretty well 0-100 in 6.3 secs apperently
