The pump on my sink just stoped working. It was fine the other day and now it won't work at all. I have tested the wires and the circuit is still lighting up my tester and the light goes off when i hit the swic=tch so I know that works. Is there anything else I should check or do i need to replace the motor in the pump? Pray

There should be a fuse mounted behind the pump.

There is another inline fuse that runs up to the fuse box in front. The fuse in the pump should screw into the bottom of it. No need to pull the pump. It's one of those push and half turn spring loaded deals. I think it's a 3amp fuse? You can access the pump by pulling out the wooden divider that seperates the cabinet from the tank. The pump screws into the bottom of the tank. I can take a quick photo if you need one.

If the light's going on and off by the switch, then the dash fuse is fine. Might be the pump fuse. If that's OK, there's one more thing you can try before replacing the pump... OK.. 2... check to make sure the wires to the pump are snuggly attached.. if they are, try pouring boiling hot water into the water tank.. that might clean out the gunk in the pump.

The fuse on the pump is 3A, the one that runs from the fusebox usually has a silver label saying 16A.

Dredging up an old thread here...

Re: the dual fuses (one inline at the fuse panel, one mounted on the water pump itself), what is the purpose of the pump-mounted fuse? I'm asking because I just bought a replacement pump from GoWesty and it DOESN'T have the attached fuse housing (the burnt out one I removed does, though).

I'm thinking it may be to protect the pump switch at the faucet, but that's a wild guess...

Ultimately my question is, can I just go ahead and install the new pump without the secondary fuse?

VW and Westfalia weren't big on installing extra, unecessary parts, if it had a fuse there must be a need for it. Hit the FLAPS for an inline fuse.

My 78 Westy pump was working fine over the 4th now it doesn’t. I checked the spring loaded 3 amp fuse on the pump and it was blown. I replaced and it blew immediately. Looks like there’s a little wire exposed where the crimped contact touches the fuse. Could that cause it to blow or is that unlikely? The inline fuse under the dash looks fine. Thanks

An exposed wire wont blow a fuse. An exposed wire touching structure and therefore grounding, will. Sounds like the lead that comes in behind drivers seat and then goes behind cabinet is rubbed/chaffed and shorting out on the frame somewhere. The feed for it goes under the floormat, under drivers seat ( in storage area), through the bulkhead where spare tire goes, and then back behind sink. Clip the wire where it comes through bulkhead and then run a jumper lead from there to the pump. If it runs, then your short is behind cabinet.
