I have SA brakes on my 86 syncro. I need rotors. I matched up every imaginable audi and vw rotor going back to the early 80's. Nothing is right. The 86-91 200 turbo rotor is close. Bolt pattern, diameter, center hole, and thickness.. But, that hat depth is a little differant, and the back side of the rotor is not cut out for caliper clearance. I find it hard to believe the these were made exclusivley for the SA vanagon syncro. I also noticed that the pad contact area is Less that normal synco brakes. The only thing that you gain is running vented rotors, which is a big plus for overheated brakes.

Call Ken at VanAgain, he either has SA rotors in stock or can get them through his supplier.

Rick, Here's my Van-Cafe (SA bigger brake kit) 2WD front brake rotor and caliper, might be different from the syncro? Rotor used is # 4A0 615 301C which I found to match up to 1996-2001 Audi A4, A6.

Me trying to fit the H&R Porsche wheel adaptor this over the new tapered hub - opps - needed machining! See rotor part number on box.

Careful, Van cafe uses eurospec carriers (custom cast) to make these fit without adaptors & the SA calipers probably arent a direct fit for those rotors.
I recently asked ken at vanagain about the syncro/2wd difference, this is his reply to my query:

"The difference between the old 2wd and syncro kit is that the rotors were machined to go over the stock syncro hub in the syncro version and the 2wd version had it's own new hub with studs that apparently wasn't the same as a syncro front hub even though they were similar (both have studs and are separate hubs instead of built into the rotors as in the stock 2wd brakes)."

Thats for stock SA rotors, i don't know about the audi rotors the VC kits uses.

That's good information regarding Eurospec custom hangers and Van Cafe's colaboration - explains a lot and the best place to get the big brake conversion. I certainly don't want to try and reverse engineer this as loads of development, design and labor has already been dialed in on the kit. Eventually when I need to replace my rotors and pads I'll keep the Van-Cafe in Santa Cruz busy.

I do have to say after adjusting my rear drums just right, the Van-Cafe big brakes are very impressive and a HUGE improvement from stock.

Reviving an old thread.

I got the SA BB kit with 275mm rotors way back in '06. They've been great but the rotors are now hard to find. Anyone know if they're available somewhere? Or does an VW/Audi equivalent exist? Thanks.

I ran into the same problem years ago, my local mechanic could not find rotors. So I called Peter at Van Cafe in Santa Cruz where I had purchased the SA kit. That tells you how long ago that was. Going on a fuzzy old memory he told me the rotors were from Ford ___, can't rememder the name of the model, had heard of it then. Think it was European, maybe SA. Anyway they were Ford. Still have this van. I am going to need rotors soon too.

Scanned around on google. Think the Ford model the SA rotors came from was the Merkur XR4. Only made 1985 to 1989.

The pads were from the Merkur, I'm not so sure about the rotors.
I think VW classic parts has them in Europe, expensive....

This company can make custom rotors. https://www.colemanracing.com/

They have a worksheet or you can send them one of yours. Then you’ll have a build on file for future discs.
