My Vanagon has an Electrolux refrigerator and I would like to test it however, I'm not quite sure how it operates.

It has a couple of knobs which both show an ignition position and an ignitor button that says press 2x. I guess what really throws me off is the switch that has the number 220 on one side and 12 on the other.

Does anyone have any information on these refrigerators?

Thanks! Very Happy

That's a European market fridge, for their 220v household current.

You should ask at the British Vanagon forum, and they will be more familiar with it.

I signed up with the UK site however, they didn't have anything on my model refrigerator. They also showed an owners manual for my model however, it wouldn't open.

All I really need to know is the process to fire it up. It appears to be alot like some of my older motorhome refrigerators.

It appears you turn the knob in the right corner to the lighting position, turn the knob in the left corner to the flame position and hold it down while you push the striker button. On older motorhomes you hold the button down for about 10 seconds after ignition and then release followed by setting the temperature to the desired level. I assume the procedure is the same however, unlike the old motorhomes... I can't seem to find a sight glass on this one (to be sure the pilot is indeed lit).

Am I too far off on this?

The Brick-Yard has some manuals for download HERE. You are probably interested in the Westy Electrolux RM 184 + EGP fridge instal and operating instructions.

Thanks for the link Very Happy While my fridge is a model RM183 the 184 instructions answered my question. Apparently the Auxilary 12V battery must be hooked up in order to operate the LP mode of the fridge. It didn't explain why however, I will try it Very Happy

I would love to find an owners manual for the 81 Transporter to understand the dash, heater etc.

Would anyone know of a link to a manual I could look at?

Thanks again for all the help Cool

You may have discovered the answer to your question already, but here goes.

The 12V supply is used to power the gas igniter which is just like a spark plug, also the flame out safety switch/gas cutoff. No power = no gas.

http://www.dometicmanuals.com:8080/dometic/masterdometic.nsf has Dometic/Electrolux manuals and if you have a serial number you may get lucky with the correct manual.

The info I have is that the RM183/4 were only made for the Westfalias. I think the 183 is a 110V and the 184 the 230V versions, I cant remember where I read that, it may have been on a German Westfalia website about Westfalias/Mercs.

What happens when the igniter won't light?
I have one of these Electrolux 220v fridges, and I know that it is THE same as a Dometic with the same code.
Do these igniters ever burn out? Can replacements be found? It has a number cast in the plastic (681). There are no other part numbers.

Piezo ignitors can be replaced.

Thats not what I'm looking for. I would have to cut and modify for that to fit. Is there nowhere to find the big black 5-sided box that the wires plug into? Anyway, I've got other problems right now. This has shifted to line 5 or 6....

.....And now it is on the front burner again.

When I reassembled Domo, the fridge DID try to light, for about 4 clicks, then stopped again. Is there anyone on Vancouver Island that knows these, has a spare or two of these....? We are leaving on Saturday, and heading for the mainland via Sidney.

That is a long way to get to mainland. Did you mean Seattle?

No. I mean Sidney, BC. Into Vancouver. Then east until we run out of road...

I am in search of a gas jet.
A well-meaning shop owner (and self professed 'expert') ran a wire through my gas jet in an attempt to clean it. I'm no expert, but it hasn't run right since. While the shop owner promised me he would replace it, it has been FOUR MONTHS, and frankly, I don't believe him anymore.
My fridge is an Electolux RM184 (Dometic in NA).
Cheers!
