I would try tirerack.com....find some with the same rolling radius as some 165. If your planning on driving in snow...I would go with some that have a narrow foot print...they sink down through the snow..down to the ground a little easier.

I searched long and hard for stock sized off road tires, they don't appear to exist unless if you can find an ooold set of bias plys. The smallest I found was a 205/75 which I think is a bit over an inch bigger in diameter than 5.60/15's.

I just checked tirerack, they have the kumho radials nothing more.
do the tires you got work okay?
when you say an inch over, did you have to do anything to suspension?
I'll look for some, what brand are the ones you have?
The baja series BF goodrich would have been the nicest.
I live in NM, so I get on some rough roads from time to time.

You could always get some Thing 14" rims and run 195/75R14 tires with them. They sell A/T tires that size, well, I know that Peerless Tires sells their Force Four A/Ts in that size, I *almost* went with those on the front of my baja last time I got tires on there.

I drive 3 miles of gravel road just to get to a paved road. I live in the upper midwest, and do this year round. All I use, are name brand all season radial tires. Never had a problem.

Russ has a good point. I've only been stuck in my 62 with just normal all-season-radial tires twice over the years, and both times it was because I got highcentered on deep snow. And wider tires are worse for straight-ahead traction, as it spreads the weight across a wider footprint.

You could always try Coker Tire for some vintage-style military tires that fit your rims & make your bug look like a type 87.

you know... before I say it. THANK YOU.
I was looking for all terrain tires, and never thought that I could actually get military type tires for my car...

THIS is exactly what I want for it.

I just emailed coker asking them what would fit my car in the military tires, without me having to get new wheels.. and if I have to, I will look into the bigger rims like the ones the thing has.

This is really great. and if the $80 dollars they have on there site will work... perfect.

I don't actually have all terrains on my Beetle. I'm rocking 40 year old bald bias plys because it's not road legal yet. As for Coker Tire military treads, they're 700-15. I think that'd be best fit on a 6-7" wide wheel.

I just looked up those military tires, 29.5 inches tall! Remember that would gear your tranny up a ways. And I don't know how well that large of a tire would fit into an otherwise stock car. And hopefully they handle better than the 7.00x14 farm-type tires I tried once on the back of my Baja bug. The aggresive tread, plus them being bias ply and my car being a swingaxle made it so they grabbed at every bump and crease in the road surface and the made it so the car wander horribly. Unsafe actually, so I took them off right away.

How about a regular set of M&S type tires? I have a set of Euro Futura 165R15 86T Metric Radials that are M + S rated. They should be available somewhere, as they came on my bug when I bought it about 5 years ago, and it came from OldBug.Com in California.

Well, over the last 5 years, tire options for 165SR15s have really dwindled. I think all the current options out there are M+S rated, although some have more aggressive tread than others.

What are the class 5 & class 11 guys running on their bugs? Not sure if I remember right, but I think they run class 11 with a stock body.
