Im remaking a set of curtains for my 68 Westy using OG material .. its all simple enough apart from the curtain that covers the sliding door window.

Can anyone advise if the curtain track runners are fixed via hooks to curtain header tape on the originals, or are sewn directly to the curtain?

Many thanks Smile

If your going to use the original material make sure you have the windows tinted or not tint but treated with a tint film that blocks UVA and UVB to prevent fading of all the material in the camper.

The original curtains slide on a rail above the door (like all the others) the bottom had elastic and was connected by the sink and the other side with a small white plastic loop it connected to a hook on the clothes cabinet.
This is a real PIA when camping because you have to open and close the curtain all the time or slip in underneath. When I redid my curtains, I put the curtains on the door. Now I have a rail on the top and an insulated wire with spring on the bottom. Both going through the hems of the curtains. When the door opens, so do the curtains.

I think these are the OEM gliders & hooks for the original curtains and sliding door track:

http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=2994&category_id=59

http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=2993&category_id=59

By the way, what sort of curtain tape will you be using?

My turn for a question now. What's the correct way to hang the curtain on the window to the rear of the slider (behind the clothes closet)?

The following diagram from the Campmobile Parts Manual references #16 - Curtain with Curtain Blind (part# 231 069 442)

Just curious....

The RR curtain is slipped over 2, 1" wide strips of thin plywood and stapled to the cabinet.

Interesting. I already have about a dozen of those gliders in the rail, but after looking at the GoWesty web site I thought all the loops had snapped off mine! So the hooks snake around the tiny gap at the back of the glider, right?

Does anyone have any pictures of the actual part the the plastic slides on? I have some curtains from a 68 bus that had a slider like that but my 72 has the aluminum curtain rod. Im wondering if I want to modify the curtain, or the rod itself. Thanks.

The curtains changed in 70-71, your 72 would have a hem along the top of the curtain that slips over the rail.

exactly busdaddy. I am not sure if I should modify the curtain I have to fit the aluminum rail or if it is even long enough for that matter. I hate cutting/sewing a good curtain. Would it be difficult to put in the slider for the plastic hooks? Thanks.

The curtain with the plastic measures about 50". When I removed my OG curtain (torn and very battered) it measured 61" so Im not sure if it will all work.

Ahhh... I see...
The door opening and the cabinet dimensions didn't change so I'm guessing Westfalia made it longer to accomodate the new track system.
Sounds like you need to find someone parting an early camper and put that rail in your 72.

Can anyone tell me how exactly these work. I have them in my 70 westy, on both driver and passenger side, and have no idea how to use them. Were making curtains, and need to know how to hook em up. If anyones got a picture of it i would be able to wrap my head around it a little easier

Are the hooks a seperate piece that hook onto these little buggers, and do they need to be sewn into the curtain?

You need to buy silent gliss loop top tape the little gliders fit into the very little loops on the tape and then slide into the track from the side .
