Are there any stampings of any kind anywhere on the crankshaft? If so, please post up what you find.

I had a CB crank many years ago. It was not a chromoly crank, and after several calls to CB about what it was made of, I decided to use it.

2 runs down the track, and the flywheel loosened. I tore the engine down, and there were cracks on the edges of several rod journals.

I stayed away from CB for many years after that, and they went through some major changes.

I imagine the info CB had on that crank went in the trash at the beginning of the company rebuild.

CB is a fine company now, and makes quality parts, but it wasn't always that way. I wouldn't use that crank unless you can have it tested and determine what it's made of.

Many years ago just about all CB cranks were cast.
Forged cranks then were not very affordable to the average consumer.
Here is a picture that should help identify a cast from a forged crankshaft.

It is the parting line that tells all.
These are not VW crankshafts but they still apply.

Narrow parting line is a cast crank.

Wide parting line is a forged crank.

I think the old CB Cast crank had a thick parting-line boss that looks like the forged chevy crank.

The CB cast crankshaft is alot more massive than a forged VW crank. I can tell at a glance.

Im not sure that its cast. Ive been told that cast doesnt have a ring to it. Kinda just a thud. This one has a ring to it when tapped and it looks like most other forged cranks. Maybe Im just a tard for listening to so many different people. Ill get some pics up tonight.

A "Ring test" will work with cast or forged....

A "thud" means it is probably cracked.

Curious how do the oil passage way plugs look like? Allen head plugs? Or looks like something like someone machined it down a bit?
