That looks like a 9 pin flasher relay...used 1967 only I believe. The 1966-67 wiring diagram should show the proper setup to use this relay.

If you have the Bently manual, the 1966-69 diagram is "pretty good" but not 100% for any model of car. However, later in the book is a better year-specific wiring diagram for the flasher relays for the various years of Beetles. They should be the same for the Ghias.

However, I think that a 68 should have a 4 pin, 12V flasher relay- kind of shaped like a cylinder. Are you sure your car is not a 67? Or had changes? In either case, the short answer is that the diagram crams several years of car together, sometimes with some contradictions.

It is a 68 according to the serial number and some of the details, but I could not get a 68 windshield wiper (barrel style motor) assembly into the car, had to go to a basket style motor.
I have a Bentley, forgot about it. There is a diagram that did the trick...Thanks

I live in Olds.

I wonder if your car is an early 68 that may have had some '67 parts on it? Does it have some of the other 68 only features like highback seats, column ignition and non-locking external gas door? Just curious because I like a good mystery.

I have a '66 with the same 9 pin flasher relay, but it's a 6V unit. I'll have to put the very same one you have there in when I do the eventual upgrade to 12V.

Cool to see another Albertan on here.

Cheers,

M.

This car is far from what it was when it left the factory......It has low back seats from some other year, it has the trigger door opener, the fuel door has been closed off so the filler is in the trunk.
The more I tinker the more confused I get...but that's not hard to do anymore. Smile

I had an early '68 Beetle and there were some '67 parts. If the build date was before January, some of the 1968 required US safety equipment, for example, shoulder belts and bead-retaining wheel rims, werent there.
