Huge longshot but the White repainted top and almost "pinkish" looking bottom, it being a early early body bumpered/large license light/deep skylight Bus... Take a look at barndoor.dk and tell me if it's not maybe possible that it's 20-017894. Probably not, but I don't think it can be said 100% either way.

...hi Brendan!! well, the deluxe you mentioned, could be this one, we'll never be 100% sure, but it would surprise me, as the one on Barndoor;dk is (or was) located in GREECE, and the old postcard is a belgian one, and the bus clearly has a belgian licenseplate on it, and an big "B" sign on the right... The pictures from that poor bus,20-017894, were taken by Duncan F. in Greece, he told me about 10 years ago the story of this one, it's also written on his website: all the windows were welded and filled in, because of a stupid governement law or something?? I don't know or don't remember if it still exsists now?? Duncan?? when Duncan reads this, he might tell us more??
PS: the 'pinkish-white' one on the postcard might be resprayed, or it could've been delivered in primer too?? ...maybe if the bus once appears, in 10, 20, 50 years, the story can be checked?  |

could be aftermarket turn signals, since the postcard seems to be post '60
( You can see something like around 59/60 Studebaker Lark in the middle and the parking lot is filled with obviously post 59 BIG American iron like probably a 61 Impala or Cad or a Rambler Ambassador...) |

REFLECTORS are SURE aftermarket ones!! BUT remember, even if it's told several times before, smoe might not believe it, but NOT all barndoors had those nice FRESE on it!! ALL the OG belgian ones I knew and know, have STIMSONITE's on the back!!! (yes, english reflectors on belgian cars  ) don't ask me why, but it seems the importer changed all of them because of some traffic-law???? (also early beetles had the UK reflectors those days in Belgium!!)
You're right Günther! I also tought the postcard was around 1960, the red 190SL is a '58-'59 I think... anyway, I bought this card yesterday! so I hope I can see more details on the REAL card when I get it... still waiting for the guys account number for the money-transfer )

...this was in Knokke (or Knocke) at the Belgian coast, so not far from Ostend, or even Bruges! ...in the late fifties and sixties, american cars where very common over here!! |

To my knowledge 20-017894 is still there. However, the last time I was in Greece was about 10 years ago! I remember seeing this bus and thinking I what a waste, I will never be so lucky to find such an early deluxe again...and this one is such a shed! It is strange that now when I look at the pictures I think it looks quite good. Obviously we are being conditioned by the likes of restorations like Marks or Paul Wisks!
Anyway here are some pics. Someone should go and see if it is still there!!

It's not uncommon to see a lot of the US toys in those era postcards all over (western) Europe. I guess it's because those main squares, churches, restaurants or whatever is focused on the card drew the more wealthy people, meaning the higher level cars ! That's why you see so many 23wdw dlxs on those old pics. But in this case ( the Belgian postcard that ambu posted) the UScars could be a row of luxury taxis !?

I think that's all correct. Many times you see Deluxes and delivery Panels with very view microbuses, standards and kombi's. The middle class vehicles are absent. |

again, 3 Belgian postcards, all 3 are from Koksijde (coast)
...on the last one, you see a '10 window', 1950 or early '51, with a homemade backwindow...
QUESTION !! ...who can tell me what car is parked BEHIND this 50 - 51 bus on the 3rd card?? (must be an American car, but don't recognize it!) thanks! |

thanks for the hint: checked a few Nash links, and yes, it must be this car! very strange model!
...Mike, postcards at fleemarkets costs you hours and hours... you might have more luck on the internet ...Not all of these are in my possesion, wish they were! but some people ask stupid prices for it! About Belgian cards with BARNDOORS on it, I think I have 26 or 27 different ones... still looking )
ps. I saw some progress pictures of yours in the gallery, looks like you're gonna rebuild it completely? |
