Hate to hi-jack the thread but has anyone with a typical manx clone Spoiler for me) ever tried to use one of these shields? Obviously the windshield is slightly rounded, but will it work? I would much rather go with this style of windshield. |

Little confused by the last post ??? What I want to do is use a s/b curved windshield I checked with the fellow in england today he is out of the bounty hunter uprights for 6-8 weeks but price is good. I want to use s/b w/s because of cost and easy to get the dauphine shield is $450 + shipping s/b $109 local big difference and figure I will have to make my own uprights just got to figure out best way to make them cast? or machine from chunk of aluminum? |

Are you sure a Super Beetle windshield will fit the Bounty Hunter hood? |

I'm not using a bounty hunter hood I'm modifying mine and also going to make it hinged windshield and dash will stay in place while the rest hinges so a S/B w/S should work |

To get a curved windshield to fit a Manx Clone, you would have to significantly reshape the hood(lots of fiberglass work).
Why not get a Manx Kick Out SS? The final design is done now and production will start pretty soon. |

You can't have a surface "return" on a molded fiberglass body, like the sidepods do) or it won't come out of the mold. The only way the side pods could be molded with the body is if there was a multipiece mold that is bolted together and then disassembled to remove the body. Dune buggy bodies are made in a one piece mold.
If you're going to custom paint it, why wouldn't you want to permanently bond the side pods to the body, and fill and smooth the seams. Lots of people have done that and it looks good. |

Bob,
The Bounty Hunter posts are a fairly simple design, especially compared to the Deserter GT version.
The BH has a smooth tapered shape, and D cross section. The Gt on the other hand has a much more complex shape, with a lip that extends off the back-side and more material at the very top. Hard to explain, these pics might help:
BH post, this is the back-side with windshield groove:
Here is is mocked up on my GT/GS, didn't quite fit the GT bodywork as it's a bit too short to reach down to the fender top:
Here's a GT I had some pics of with a view of the Deserter style post:
I ended up trading my BH posts for a set of GT posts (a few years ago).

I have bonded them before if you look at my gallery you can see my old buggy I molded them in on that buggy I would move the picture to this thread but do not know how to do it !! I hate to spend big bucks on a body then have to do alot of body work on it then the expence of paint job on top of everything plus I really enjoy bringing an old body back to life but if the new manx was say $4000.00 I would consider it but I doubt they will be that cheap !! thanks for the input it all helps

Here's a pic of the hood - dash end view.
Don't have any better pics of the GT posts - they're basically "flat" on the WS side, sort of like the BH posts, except they have more meat at the top and the top curves around the top of the WS a little.

I was looking at the SS last week. The hood has been redesigned from the "spider eyes" one. It also has a redesigned dash. The rear cover has articulated hinges that swings it back as it opens to clear the double hoop roll bar. There's also a panel that closes off the back seat. It uses a stock Super Beetle windshield but it has a full metal frame with a specially designed extrusion across the top. The little spare lies flat under the rear seat. The opening hood has a storage area underneath. The wide rear fenders and vented side pods give it a real high performance look. |

You can also set the screen in a fiberglass frame if you can work with glass, it would give a much sturdier install and would be cheaper than getting posts made
