| the B pillar that Gerson makes is three pieces (at least the complete one that I got ). Thom, I assume you put it together first before fitting it to the bus? |

Actually, no. I did the outer first, which I indexed on the cargo door latch, and then I lined up the other pieces to match that. The outer piece was twisted pretty bad, so it took some effort just to get it to lay against the lower rocker - it's still a little off, so I'll have to do some heat-and-beat once I get it welded on. The other two pieces needed a lot of trimming and re-bending, so there's really no way to assemble the whole mess before putting it on the car.
It also looks like this B pillar piece is too short, at least compared to my other buses - notice how it the tab of the B pillar doesn't quite reach to the bottom of the inner rocker. I'm getting a new cargo rocker in a couple of days, and I'll be able to tell how short it is when I bring that into the mix.
Then, when I'm testing the dogleg fit, I find this mismatch. People say "hey, be glad you have the pieces at all!" but I'm still not smiling.

Today I POR-15'd the back side of the nose area both on the bus and on the donor section. Messed with it for a good part of the day, and now I'm almost ready to finish trimming and tack it in. Even with the replacement inner valence, I still had to make a ton of relief cuts to get the curve right. The lower valence piece was OK, except I had to trim down the flange so it would fit inside the groove in the nose.

Spent all weekend sandblasting and painting axle tube/grb's and associated brake parts. found that the mounting holes that attach the grb to the spring plate utterly shot, threads missing, holes wobbled out after a couple of hours cleaning off crud and blasting. At least I didn't paint that one yet! I get about fifteen minutes of blasting before I need to let my tank refill . Blaster requires 10 scfm at 100 psi and my compressor delivers 5.4 scfm at 90 psi . but with the 200 psi and 15 gal tank it runs ok with the regulator set at 80 psi . Stops delivering sand at 50 psi so I go work on something else until it fills . Got my axles installed in the transaxle with a chickenshit set of snap ring pliers. And finally cleaned off the silicone off from the side plates . Oh and sliced my finger open on a rabid piece of sheet metal while cleaning my harbor freight sandblaster . nice unit actually just should have inspected it before use.
and I have a couple of questions the big thin washer that goes behind the bearing cap before the axle seat is pitted pretty bad does that have to be smooth to do its job and the outer bearing spacer is also pitted it is safe to assume that has to be smooth to seal ? and I didnt paint where the backing plate will meet the grb cover thinking it will work better with the seal that goes there? or should I paint it too? _________________ April 3rd 62 standard mgr/pw

Spent $20 and 30 minutes on spraying axles, wheels, and passenger door because it is rusted shut. Still on the hunt for a 1600c or 1776cc...found a 1200cc for cheap but want to have enough power to 'get out of the way.' If able to help... good looking out.

Although I don't show it, I go to the gym quite regularly, so I'm used to strenuous activities like that........ I just sat down for a minute or two and regained my composure afterwards. |

That's some fancy fresh air heat exchanger hose system you have there. Should keep you kinda warm this winter.... _________________

Got the nose skin tacked on. I modified some of my welding clamps so the pin wouldn't fall through. This make it possible to slide them side to side. I only lost one pin behind the nose, and I still may be able to dig it out.

| Hey Thom, just a question why did you use a 59 up lower valance instead of a pressed bumper type? |

I did this to a Porsche. Some of those missing parts should help my bus stop better.

I figured somebody was going to ask.
Super secret custom turbo crankshaft cam and other internals.
See that big empty whole in the pulley? Right now it is just a mock up of a once was 2382. I needed to make everything fit, make brackets for the computer box, electric fuel pump, pressure regulator, O2 control box, Oberg filter, oil cooler and about 40 feet of braided fuel and oil lines. Plus fitting the rear tin. Once I get it all the mechanicals of the bus worked out it will be torn down for final paint. Long block will be ordered then. In the mean time I am researching what I want inside the motor. The turbo system is CB performance fuel injection. The one that you can hook a computer up to and map the fuel ratios and it is supposed to be a "learning" system. I can't wait to teach it a few things with my right foot. _________________ Where's Garry |
