I am having some troubles with mw blinkers not working. The flashers and all the other lights work fine. I replaced the turn signal switch and the blinkers worked fine for a day. Then it was back to nothing. All fuses and relays and bulbs have been replaced. And all the grounds have been cleaned. Is their a way to test the switch to see if it is good?

Thanks for all of your help.

Sure the switch can be checked. Positive voltage goes to the flasher relay, then into the turn signal switch, which just directs that voltage to either left or right.

Get a 12 volt test light, better for this than a voltmeter. Turn the ignition on, check terminal 31 (brown wire) at the flasher relay, and test light should flash. If it does, then the turn signal wires are next to be tested. The brown going in is that 31 wire, that should deliver to the TS switch. Select left turn, check for voltage in the black wire with white stripe, test light should flash; if so, left position is OK. Select right turn, check for voltage in the black wire with green stripe, test light should flash; if so, right position is OK. If those are both OK, then you need to check your turn signal light sockets with the test light in a similar way. If they flash there, problem is the housing, housing grounding, or bulb. Remember, these turn signal bulbs have two filaments, bulbs must be inserted correctly. And one filament can burn out and the other be OK.

If you don't get flashing at that #31 terminal on flasher, make sure terminal #49a there is getting its power (from the light switch). And your 71 SB has metal fenders correct, not plastic/fiberglass and the housings are making good ground (you didn't just have it painted, did you?).

I had the same problem and it ended up being the "Japan made" relay that I bought at Autozone. Put a German made relay in and it has worked perfect ever since.
