Any idea what this is under my front seat? I thought seat belt mounts. seems rather large for that and no other factory mount near edges of the seat.

Never seen something like that before. _________________

| That's the factory seat belt mounting points for '62 bench seat models. I'm not sure why you aren't finding mounts on the outside edges. I've only spotted that setup once, and it was in a '62 kombi we cut up. It had the side mounting points as well. |

Can't say I've had a 62 bus with factory belt mounts, but 62 beetles don't have the outer mounts, only on the upper door post and tunnel. Supposedly for a shoulder only belt, better than nothing I suppose _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I have 4 of those ring mounts that were on my 66 deluxe - I do not want to let them go unless I do not need them. can anyone tell me if I would need them to mount seatbelts in my deluxe?? _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

I don't get the point of what those huge tubes serve? Surely there must be an easier way of securing seat belts in an early bus without the need for those rocket launchers?
My 60' currently has no seatbelts in it so am looking for ideas that require a minimum of cutting and drilling. |

The inner mounts look overkill to me too.
I am thinking that if I hit something hard enough to stress those inner mounts, the nose of the bus will be touching them already. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

maybee seatbelts in a bus was a fairly new thing for vw at the time, just a guess?
i too had a 62 standard / humpback seat bus, that had those type of mounts. that was a swr/bg. not sure if it had m025 as the m-plate was missing. _________________ WANTED:

my thinking is regardless of them being overkill there allready there so I may as well use them. but since you can seat three up there does the middle belt mount? if to the center mount then it may be uncomfortable to wear or do the two passengers share a belt? I don't plan on having three up front but you never know _________________ April 3rd 62 standard mgr/pw

i don't know about the state your in but up here if it's there it legally has to work(ie seatbelts, extra taillights,etc..)
i honestly don't see what good a seatbelt in a spittly would do
the last place i would want to be strap into in a wreck is in the front seat _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

I cut the mounts out of the rear seat area of a '74 bay that I will use to graft into my '59 for the sole purpose of holding me in the seat while off-roading.

Great point.
Aslo, if your bus was originally equipped with belts and you were NOT using them at the time of an accident, good luck getting any compensation for your injuries from either insurance company. |
