can some one find a source for the calipers that work with this adapter? I get lots of hits for "girling g60 caliper" but none for sale.

I have two available now, PM me. Also some rotors, but I need to check if they're still thick enough to turn.

Just curious if any of the dozen or so members i've sent drawings to ever got their brakes installed? I've got around 10,000km on mine & still am amazed at the power they have.

As for the rear brackets I never put any time into it once I saw Burley was making a perfect DIY rear disk setup for a great price.

I got the adapters made. Finally found suitable bolts last week. Not easy to find.

Just waiting for a break in the weather, and I should be able to finish up the fronts.
Rears are 90% done. Just need to stick a spacer in the e-brake housing and find the right brake line.

I have mounted the 312mm rotors, the adapter for the G60 carriers and the spacer in back of the rotor on a 1991 Syncro.
The spacer was too thick, so I had to use very old pads to get it mounted and tested.
I need to machine the spacer a bit to allow for proper centering of the rotor in the caliper.
This should let me use the new pads.

FYI,
I had been buying all sets of G60s I could find off eBay.
They were running about $150 for a used pair and I would rebuild them and spray with hi heat caliper paint.
I did run accross a few sets that were brand new.
Both sources have dried up recently or people aren't selling them.

I just went on ebay motors & found 5 ads for them, try searching for "88 audi caliper" instead fo G60 or Girling 60. Genuine Girlings are getting harder to find but Cardone or others are around. All you really want to find are the carriers, after that your FLAPS can get the calipers. Around here they are around $100 each without a core return, $60 with.

I think I paid $120ea for loaded calipers from RockAuto.
Genuine Girling.
Oh yeah, the adapters needed to be exactly .500" thick on my '91 2WD to make everything line up.

I just cut down the stock caliper bolts.

As for the adapter thickness thats related to the rotor spacer thickness. If you need more than a 6mm spacer for your wheels, use whatever thickness you need but make the caliper adapter that much thicker too starting with a 6mm (1/4") rotor spacer thickness & a 9.5mm (3/8") caliper adapter. I'm assuming you used an approximatly 3/8" thick rotor spacer to end up with a .5"caliper mount. Nice & Beefy!!

careful there the Audi 80 & 90 as well as the non-turbo quattro 100 used a Girling 54(?) single piston caliper and it's really just a plain non-special deal.

I used to get the G60s from my parts house for $60ea(W/core) and they came with caliper carriers.. the Cores did not require tha carriers. but I don't play with enough $$ to stock more then I can from just the local u-pull-its and Audi 5000/200 Turbos I part out.

maybe we'll start seeing some S4 Audis in the u-pull-its.

So to make sure I get this right - your assembly from inboard to outboard goes= Hub; Spacer; Rotor; wheel?
Not= Hub; Rotor; Spacer; wheel

So for my 12mm spacer I currently use with my Passat wheels (ET 45mm)
I should make my bracket out of 5/8" thick steel? How about Aluminum. Should be strong enough with that thickness, right?

I wouldn't use aluminum, the caliper adapter needs to be threaded & the 16mm caliper bolts are torqued to... Ummmm... I can't remember off the top of my head but tight enough to tear out aluminum threads i'd say (I do mine as tight as I can with a 18"bar). I'd use the strongest steel you can get your hands on, mine are scraps from a local steel works that doesn't allow anything below 44w structural steel into the shop (44,000psi minimum yield).

I think the 2wd may be different than what Blackdogvan has.

My setup is Hub - rotor - spacer - wheel
That's because I have a ET45 wheel and need 16-17mm of spacer. If I have a ET35 wheel, I would have no spacer at all.

Even with the rotor mounted directly to the hub, I have room for the 1/2" thick adapter.
And yes, I would go steel. I used 4340.

Lets see some pics, thats not what I have on my 2wd but there's no reason you can't do it another way!!

I'll snap a pic tonight.

To anyone else playing with this setup: Have you found a 16" wheel that fits over the caliper? My MBZ S500 wheels do not. The A4 sport wheels I measured today do not.

Hit up the classifieds on the Audi forums. I picked up a set with carries for $75 shipped. Just waiting till warmer weather to do the conversion.
