Did all of the tune-up items
Added oil
Gas
Got her to fire up for the first time in 20 plus years.
Had some minor issues while getting her to start & had to install another new starter, another rebuilt distributor, & rebuild the ignition switch.
After that I took some CLR & OOOO steel wool to the surface rust on the rain gutter. I had never done this before. The rust residue came off easily.
Last I mounted a lisence plate bracket on the decklid.

| Swapped the funky radials out on my '55 kombi for some 15X6.40 bias plys and drove the heck out of it all day. What a fun ride! The little 36hp engine doesn't go fast but fast enough. It's never boring driving the old dinosaur I love it. gotta watch for the fast driving idiots on their cel phones and unconscious lane changers though...it's pretty scary out there in an old bus. |
When can we see pics of this new bus? |
Here's a couple I shot real quick...

Did some more work on the L/R corner, almost ready to tack it in; it still needs to be shifted up about 1.5mm.

Looks good Paul. Are you going to take it to Farmington next weekend or are you not ready to push it that far yet? _________________ 58 Coral Red ragtop(Diana's car)

Yesterday, I started it up for the first time in weeks (was doing motor work). Worked on rear bumper, brackets on bumper need to be repositioned. I was off on one, but ended up moving the wrong one and made things worse...Doh!
This morning, I drilled and tapped the engine plate and mounted a urethane mount for the rear engine hanger/traction bar. I just need to drill 4 holes, mount the bar, then tune the carbs...and I'll be back on the road! |

The flooring arrived today & I could not wait to install it. It is Mannington Stone Grey 10128 comercial grade vinyl. It was not cheap but it will probably last longer than the Bus.
I also had some fun & installed some stickers;
An original SOTO club sticker
A small EMPI globe because of all of the original accessories
A reproduction oil change sticker
Last I reinstalled a MOBILE Spot Check Card holder. It was in the Bus when I got it & though the history would be cool. Unfortunately I do not have the card that goes in it.
Last I installed the childs cot back above the closet. The poles are OG. The leather strap is OG. The canvas is repro.

From Friday night to yesterday .I pulled my rear main seal on my 77 and replaced it.On my 60 double pulled the bent passenger side axle out from the 68 tranny in it. Pulled the motor, found another 68 tranny and axle.Pulled the new to me tranny from a beetle in a field, pulled the axles and sold the tranny to my friend bought the new seals now its time to go put it all back together.
Tomorrow i plan to pull the side doors and front doors off of a dead 15 window after work.
The wife and kids are on Spring Break so i have until Thursday night to get as much done as possible. _________________ driving down the road of life at 60 mph |

It's looking better and better as you go...very inspirational for me. The floor is really nice and thanks for posting the material. It obvious you've done a lot of sourcing and fact checking on the correct parts for SO42 so I'm hoping to hit you up for information later when I get in to assembly. |

I dropped my blue bus at the alignment shop this morning.
I can't wait to get it back, and finally see what it feels like to drive it and not have it go all over the road. |
