Sorry, Us Texans think local, Longview TX. Unfortunately this gentleman had numerous individuals take advantage of him At least two wound up in jail because of theft or fraud. The one guy, Boucher wound up in jail for multiple counts of grand theft auto. Another guy also wound up in jail for defrauding him.
I hate to see that happen to a nice guy.

That would be Longview, TX. It's truly a shame about Don Garie's passing, he was actually a very nice guy, and certainly, he had a passion for VWs. When I saw the Heb make it's debut at Ennis last year, I made a beeline for it, and saw the gap under the doors, wrong apron(s), rear bumper brackets on the front, and other things- Now I am NOT an expert on Hebs, but I've seen probably 25 of them, ridden in a few, driven a few, and I knew this car still needed some "attending to"- Being #6, which I believe is the second oldest one known to exist (#5 is in a private collection in Germany, or was about 10 years ago) somebody with the $$ to "make it right" will no doubt purchase the car, and either restore it correctly, or have it restored by Bob Koch, Lenny Copp, or someone who is well-versed in early Coachbuilts, and they will have a real treasure on their hands.
$220k for a Heb? As one poster said, it will fetch whatever the market will bear, but I don't think the Heb market is at that point just yet... I could be wrong, of course, we'll just have to wait and see..... _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

I think this car is the most expensive VW I've seen for sale. Wonder what the two 38's in the VW museum would go for now ... |

Provenance is a issue with this car. Several experts disagree on several points about how much of the car is really original. It has been offered for several years. If it had no issues, it would be worth twice that price. There is no proof that Goering ever took delivery of that car. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

I've seen that car, and talked to the guy. He seems like a dick, almost that he's in it for the money. Anyways, there's actually a bit that is incorrect with it. I'll try to find some pictures I took of it at a show. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

Like the semaphores on the posts?
Would a wartime car even have semaphores?
Pics I'd seen had them mounted up front sitting outside the body in boxes... but those may have been earlier cars
Looks like my dream car though _________________ Thanks,
