@ MLTIGGER2 thanks for where to get the parts, but i was looking for which one is the best. i have a project that is now getting the body wok done,so i am getting all my parts together before the car is done. i am looking to see which seal fits and seals the best. i want to install the windshield once and not keep replacing them till i find a good one. _________________ this is my porject link:

WCM has the best rubber at least for the type 1's. I'm new to type 3's. I'm sure others will chime in. _________________ 1968 Squareback

Original Type 3 window rubber was thicker than the equivalent Type 1 rubber. Almost all rubber today is actually Type 1 profile made to Type 3 lengths. It will work, but it looks a little odd, especially on the front windshield. And many report that it cracks at the corners after only a year or two. ISP West once talked about coming out with genuine Type 3 windshield rubber, maybe this year. I don't think it's out yet, though. |

If you're looking for a good Cal-look seal front seal, get a WCM seal. I've got 1 here over 20 years old, 1 that's 11 years old, and 1 that's 6 years old, all still look good, and don't leak. So far, I've only got 3 years on my ISP West cal-look rear Notch window seal. My Bill and Steve's rear Notch window seal (with chrome groove) started cracking 6 months after install, but still hasn't leaked. My wife's Fastback still has the same 20 year old rear WCM seal we installed, that looks good and doesn't leak.
Also, I haven't been adding chemicals like Pedro did on his Notch, to any of these seals. It might be a case of having the groove cut in the seal causes a change in the rubber, or it's made of different ruber. I don't know. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I picked up all my seals from cip1.com and was happy with them. There is enough material to form around the corners nicely. The windshield was a little tight around the bottom corners, but still turned out good. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

So I replaced rear window seal on the fastback a few weeks ago. Tried to test, I mean wash the car, and surprise, surprise, still leaks! And of course it's narrower profile as well, no big deal or main concern here considering I am still getting water in the rear package tray.
What's next, try WCM rubber? Put silicon around outside? I am not even sure if it's possible without making a mess, since it's a very tight fit.
Thanks,
Anton |

Outside of this forum I have always heard that West Coast Metric is the best place for rubber and seals. might be a little more pricey, but worth it. I was surprised to see they had such a reputation on The Samba too. Once I have enough saved up to paint the inside and out side of my car I'll get new rubber from WCM. Who did you end up getting the bad seal from? _________________ 73' Squareback, FI |

Silicon was the answer for me. After I installed a new WCM seal, water would still leak in between the glass and the seal (the seal to body was fine). I applied clear silicon with a caulking gun, inserting the tip between the seal and the glass. Pump the gun until silicone oozes back out and work your way around the edge of the glass. When done, wipe up the excess. I haven't had a leak since (knock on wood)... |

i'm a little disappointed with my ISP west rear window seal (squareback, w/trim), its way too narrow. it was professionally installed and it leaks in between the window and the hatch every time i wash my car.
does anyone know of a thicker, wider, non-cal rear window seal for a squareback? _________________ '67 Squareback

ill try to keep this short, to the facts... most of this was said before in previous threads... here... most window rubber sealing issues are due to the installation / installer ( professional or non professional )
all the suppliers mentioned in this thread, provide and sell all the same seals as each other... ( with exception to CIP - not sure what they sell )
I wrote a FAQ about window rubber on eBay back in '07 that has some general info... http://reviews.ebay.com/Window-Rubber-for-Air-Cooled-Volkswagens_W0QQugidZ10000000004885409

hey anthony,
i'm not trying to dog ISP's window rubber, just wanting to have my car not leak when i wash it. would you recommend that i have it taken out and re-installed? the rubber just seems too narrow compared to the stock rubber, it sits inside the cutout in the hatch instead of overlapping it. _________________ '67 Squareback

no offence taken, just wanted to give the general refresher on window rubber when I see our name in in a couple of times in a thread... its not ' our manufactured product ' so I can't control it.. an hence ' will not ' take offence to it...
now if you want to piss me off, talk about parts we make... LOL joking of course...
I do believe you need to remove and reinstall the seal... I can check the seal in your car out for you sometime, get with Mike and the crew to bring it by the shop or my place on the weekend if needed...
