Bondo it up like your pops did and shoot some paint on it and go do some wheelies.

I also have a pic somewhere of it in bare metal. He raced it a year or two like that before he painted it.

I have one in the buff somewhere also, I think it's of it just sitting in our driveway. And thanks for those pictures by the way, I'll have to add them to the collection if you don't mind. Are you from our area? It seems like alot of people know my father as I get more into vw's. |

Do as little as possible! Repair rust where needed, but don't paint the whole thing. I'd get it mechanically sound, clean up the rough edges, and race it. It doesn't need a restoration, just a preservation.

I raced against your dad for years. I am in Maryland and campaigned the "Squirm'n German" car since the early 90's.

I believe he, like me, ran an 1835cc. The bus was a low 9sec 1/8 miler. You can see a dial in of 9.29 in the one pic i posted of it.
