I'm restoring a 1964 Ghia and have replaced some relays and gotten most of the electrical business straightened out and when I finally got the qwerks worked out of the lights themselves, my friend says hit the breaks and my turn signal quit working until I let off the breaks. I don't think this is normal... Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanx..

Check your wiring diagram. Trace the turn signal circuit and make sure it is wired separetly from your brake circuit. It is a dual filament bulb. One circuit for the brakes and the other circuit for the turn signals. Could just be a conductor on the incorrect terminal. The majority of the time when I troubleshoot VW"s it is usually something simple. Check your electrical cnnections for grounds, opens, shorts while you are trouble-shooting the circuits. Most are usually corroded from lack of maintenace. I'm guilty of that myself! I doubt it is your ground, because your brake lights are working. The best thing to do is trace the circuit with your wiring diagram. Keep the connections and terminals "CLEAN." Let me know what you've discovered.

I have checked my grounds... but now there is another bit of information to add... If I am driving at a relatively good speed (~40mph) and depress the breaks the turn signals will work, slowly. Do I have a voltage problem or what? most relays have been replaced. Thankse

Like I said check your terminations. Could be a voltage drop because of the connection. Hard to say without actually investigating it. I'll tell you, I've troubleshot air-cooled VW's with electrical problems up the ying-yang. Most are due to corroded terminals, rusty, or loose terminations. Do you have a VOM to check the voltage? Check the voltage at the brake light terminal.
Let me know.
